Body Feels Pregnant-at Home Tests Say Negative

OK Moms I already know the obvious answer to what I'm about to ask is to go to my OBGYN. However, finances have been preventing me from going. So I'm looking for some guidance and feedback if anyone has experienced what I'm about to present. Here it goes- about 5-6 months ago my husband were intimate. It was a day or two after my cycle ended. About 5-7 days later I started having physical symptoms that led me to think I might have been pregnant. I took an at home test and it was negative . Then my monthly cycle changed dramatically. It became very light and only lasted 2-4 days. I also had severe cramps which I had not experienced in over 4 years. Ever since my periods have been very light and very short. Sometimes only 2 days. I will usually have enough bleeding to use a tampon on the 2nd day. The thing is-ever since our last intimate moment I have felt "pregnant". I changed my diet a few months ago and have lost weight everywhere except my abdomen, which seems to be growing and slightly hardening. I have continued to have light and short periods each month but have "felt" pregnant in all levels that I have taken 2-4 at home tests and they are always negative. I'm just wondering what could be going on with my body-or us it all in my head? I'm 39 years old and have a 4 year old daughter.

What can I do next?

It's time to see a Dr./Midwife. Although pregnancy test are highly accurate (even those purchased at Dollar Stores), there are a few women in the world who do not secrete enough pregnancy hormone in their urine to make it positive regardless of how far along they are. A blood test will give an accurate diagnosis of pregnancy for these women. Don't delay, see a Dr and find out what is causing your symptoms. You will likely need an ultrasound to find out why your abdomen is growing. Start with crisis pregnancy clinic or free women's health clinic if you need to, but please see a professional ASAP. I have to agree with the other posters that it is time to see a health care professional. It is possible that you have gotten false negatives on the home pregnancy tests (ever seen the show 'I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant!'?), but if you in fact are not pregnant, it seems as though there might be a problem that needs to be addressed right away. So, either way, you need medical intervention as soon as possible. A lot of doctors will work with you on their fees if they know you are uninsured--all you have to do is ask. Good luck! I hope you find the answers you are looking for.

Go to your doctor...now. If you are pregnant, you are 5-6 months along and need prenatal care NOW. I personally know a girl who got pregnant while on the pill and was 3 months along before the blood test confirmed her pregnancy (before that all the urine tests, her husband, and the doctors kept telling her she was not pregnant). When they did the ultra sound, it confirmed she had been right all alone.

If you are not pregnant, it sounds like something is very wrong.

I miscarried 1st pregnancy, and 6 weeks later felt pregnant again. Went to Naval Hospital and took a blood test, came back negative. Went a few more weeks and was throwing up and everything. Sadly I thought I was mentally making myself feel pregnant because of the loss of my 1st pregnancy. Went back a month later and came up positive. My thoughts where there was not enough hormone because maybe I was not far enough along. It had been months since a normal cycle because of 1st pregnancy, so they wanted to do a ultra sound to find out. Well I was 13 weeks along. Almost to the 2nd trimester. So to my point...body does some funny stuff so hand in there, and get checked out.

I agree with all of the women here. Don't waste time with getting our opinions, check out the clinic because they can help you. The health department can also help you if you are financially strapped.

Planned Parenthood usually has the ability to run a pregnancy test and have you examined by a health professional (may be a nurse practitioner, but they are usually great). As has been said, if you are pregnant, you need to be receiving prenatal care. It may also be due to your dietary change, and not a pregnancy.

Do you not have any sort of clinic nearby where you could get a free pregnancy test?

Do you have a county facility where you can go and pay a small fee for them to examine you and run a blood test for pregnancy? Or call your OB and make payments on whatever they charge. Are you buying the home pg tests at The Dollar Store? Maybe they arent reliable. Maybe its the beginning of menopause, It could be a number of things and you should see a Dr to find out what it is. If you are pg, wouldnt you want to know, and then get on prenatal vitamins and make sure everything is going well?

Well, 5-7 days after sex, you most likely wouldn't have implanted yet, meaning you would not have symptoms so early. Go to a county clinic (There are many low cost clinics near Austin, because of the amount of colleges.) After 5-6 months, you would most definitely have enough HCG to get a positive result. You can get a blood test, just in case you got a hold of an out of whack at-home test. You also could be getting to an age, where your hormones are very seriously changing. Either way, it's something you want to check out. Call the county health department and see what options they have.

How fast can you get to your doctor? Family practice or gynocologist; see them now please. I don't wish to scare you, but only a professional can straighten this out for you. It could likely be something simple to fix, but you need to get it looked into.
