The DVDs will work on a BluRay. If you have wireless internet in your home, look for a player that has wifi built in. That way, down the road you could do Netflix if you aren't already.
Our old DVD player is on it's last life, it won't play CD's or DVD's unless we leave the cover unscrewed, lol.. So I am looking online and trying to find something I think would be good for us. But now I am wondering if all our old movies will still play on the Blue Ray or should I just buy a regular one again so I don't have to donate all those DVD's?

reg dvds will play on a blueray player, and will even look better than they did before. Enjoy
Blu ray players will play your DVDs. We only still have our DVD player b/c it's a DVD/VCR combo and we still have some vhs tapes.
We got out blueray at Walmart and it plays both. It usually says so on the box. They are really easy to find. Ours was less than $50.
Definitely get one that has built in wifi! Ours does not, and we had to buy something (I can't remember what) so that we could get online and watch netflix or youtube or skype.
I would also think long term. Do you have thoughts of ever wanting a 3D TV? My husband bought a 3D TV. I rolled my eyes, but I have to admit, it is pretty cool! If that's something you might do, you have to buy a Blu Ray player that plays 3D movies.
If you're not sure what you want to be thinking about long term, just go to Best Buy or Sears or a place like that and ask lots of questions. They'll try to sell you something you probably don't need, but you should be able to walk out of there with more information.
BluRay players also play DVD's and CD's. Your movies will work just fine on it.
Mine has WiFi so I can access Netflix and stream movies. I love it.
I definitely recommend Best Buy's brand of BluRay player ("Insignia"). It's a great deal and I've had no problems with it at all.
All your old DVDs play on Blue Ray plus it sort of converts them into HD.
