Bloody Diarrhea TMI

Has anyone experienced explosive very bloody diarrhea? I am 47 years old and about 6 weeks ago I had my first episode. Sometimes it is just some clots other times it is quite a bit. It comes and goes. I went to the doctor and my white blood count is a little low. I had a colonscopy on Monday and they found a precancerous polpy which they are dong a biospy on ( so it was good I went in) but no inflamation or anything that could explain the bleeding. It seems worst after exercise so I have lessen my exercise. Could the excersise be causing it? I run 3 miles and walk 2 miles on the treadmill. It is not always after exercise but does seem worst when it does happen after exercising. Any suggestions would be great. I am still waiting to hear from my other doctor.

To answer some questions: It is maroon color, no I have not been on antibiotics in a very long time, I do have Celiac so I am worried it could be upper GI even though I watch my diet very closely. I have been taking Excedrin which I did not know contained aspirin. Once every a week or so only though. My gastrologist does not think that is the problem but I am not going to use Excedrin any more and see what happens. I have used it for years for migraines without a problem but I am getting older and things do change. Thanks for all the responses so far!

Not hemmroids. I have had hemmroids since highschool and it is different also my doctor ruled it out. Thanks!

What can I do next?

My mom did a year or so ago. It was attributed to bleeding in her intestines because she was taking aspirin several times a day (thinned blood too much and it was leaking into intestines I think). Now she can't even take ibuprofin. So take a look at any meds you are taking and see if they might cause bleeding.

My first thought was around bleeding in your GI tract, etc. Only because just yesterday my mom said she has to have a colonoscopy too because her usual BW came back that she is servely anemic. So they want to rule out the same stuff.

I'm glad you had the colonoscopy done-from what I've read now in 24 hours so take it for what it is worth is that it could be many things, but probably not the exercise. I think the exercise increases blood flow no matter what so it makes sense that exercising would increaes it.

I hope everything turns out perfectly fine!

Have you been on long term antibiotics recently? If so have them test for c-diff.

Did they do an endoscopy to check your upper GI tract? You could be bleeding from higher up in your digestive tract. Is the blood bright red or maroon colored, are your stools black?

Good Luck

I have a touchy stomach and if I vary my diet too quickly or too often that happens to me. I just have to watch what I eat. Is it possible something you ate isn't agreeing with your stomach?

It sounds like either food allergy or ulcerative colitis. I have both and have the above symptoms if I don't carefully watch what I eat and drink. I can't eat dairy, gluten, soy, honey or beets. Maybe keep a food journal and see if there is any pattern. The exercise thing may coincide because everything gets moving when you're active.

Have you been tested for diverticulitis? My MIL has this and your symptoms sound similar to events a few years ago that sent her to the ER, after which she eventually got a diagnosis. Thankfully, you've already had the colonoscopy!
