Blighted Ovum/ Slow HR

This question is actually for a friend. She is not sure when her last period was and she had a positive preg. test at home and the Dr. Her first US in office revealed a tilted uterus. He thought by exam she was about 6 weeks. He sent her for a vag. US and they were able to see the yolk sac but no baby. The sac measured 6 weeks at that time. She tehn had an HCG that was a bout 6 weeks. She had another US the next week with no baby still, just sac measuring about 7 weeks. She had a repeat HCG which went up somewhat but did not double as it should have. The Dr. order another US for a week later but thought that she has a blighted ovum. Her US was this am and they saw a baby with a heartbeat but it was only 85 bpm. I know that this is rather slow as she is now at least 7 or 8 weeks. They told her the sac was measuring 8 weeks now but the baby was only measuring 6 weeks. Has anyone ever experienced this with good outcome? She is still optimistic but I am just not sure that this will all be ok. I would like to offer her some hope!

What can I do next?

That's sure discouraging for her, I imagine.

I don't have any experience with that stuff really but wanted to comment on the measuring small. When I was prego with my 2nd (Ellie) they noted she always measured about 4-5 weeks smaller than normal! Talk about scary. They warned me of IUGR and have me alllll freaked out. They said she would most likely be born weighing 4-5 lbs. because she measured so small but she was fine! She weighed 7 lbs. even!

well, you have to be positive in a situation like this or you'll be way too stressed! :o) I had a situation where they saw the everything but the baby and had me come back a week or two later to see if things had progessed. It was my first pregnancy and I was devistated when they found that nothing had progressed and I ended up miscarrying. But, two months later (Ahead of schedule!) I became pregnant agian and everything is fine, I have a perfectly healthy almost three year old to show for it! ;o) As far as the tilted uterus, I've been told that this is never a problem and any mention of this being a negative thing is "an old wives tale" type thing. That is what I have always been told anyway. So, good luck to your friend. At the time I had been told that they see wall sorts of things in pregnancy and each one is unique, so who knows, maybe everything really is fine with her pregnancy? Anyway, hope all this rambling helped some!

When I was pregnant I had an US done before my 1st prenatal visit,I was 5 weeks via US and as tiny as the fetus was it wasn't noticiable but the heartbeat was visiable, was also able to hear the heartbeat at first visit and that was at 10 weeks.Does her Ob say anything about the risk of miscarrying this baby with a slow heartbeat at this time.It is good that this was caught early I wish her the best outcome.I know that we rely on technology but not know her LMP the US could be off a few days,I say this because I have had several US's done and was given a due date for 3 of them all within the same month but later in the month which I know my LMP and so they narrowerd it down to 1 due date and that was my first US.

Unfortunately, this has happened to us twice. The first time the baby's HR was 100 and we miscarried within 1 week. And recently we had a HR of 90 and one week later, the baby had stopped growing. I hope this isn't the case for your friend, but she needs to be prepared for a worse case scenario. Early on, they usually want to see high HR, above 110. So when we had a HR of 100 we still had hope, but it wasn't meant to be. Hope this helps.

The only part I know about is not being able to see the baby in the yolk sac, when I became pregnant with my last daughter I had the Mirena IUD and they wanted to do an Vag. US right away this was at five weeks. At that time they could only see a yolk sac. I had a repeat Vag. US at 7 weeks and they then saw the baby, if I remember correctly she was a bit small at that point, but she caught up and was fine. I hope all ges well.
