Just curious as to how many women have had bleeding, when they were pregnant, at the time their period should be? Let's say you thought you had gotten your period in the first month but later found out that you were actually pregnant and the bleeding wasn't a period.
Sounds like implantation bleeding to me. I had that with my second child. It came a couple days before my period was due (but close enough that I still wondered if it was a period) But, it was lighter and lasted less time. I tested positive for pregnancy about a week later. I didn't have anymore bleeding throughout the pregnancy.
I went into my OBGYN for a regular check up and Pap smear. The doctor said that he couldn't do a pap smear because HE noticed I was on my period. News to me! Because the doctor thought I had my period, I ignored the faint symptoms (nausea, weight gain, no 'real' period) of being pregnant and finally at 16 and 1/2 weeks along 'discovered' I was pregnant (he confirmed how far along I was when I went again to see him; never in a million years did I think I was half way through a pregnancy!)
So yes, I have had my period (without knowing it) and later found out that I was pregnant!
I did with my last child and a friend of mine had regular periods for the first trimester for both of her pegnancies
I did have that first period, but it was lighter. There was still a lot of cramping though so I wasn't even ready to take a test until a few weeks after that once I started having other symptoms.
I bled with all 3 of mine. The dr. said some light bleeding is normal in the first trimester and is caused by the implantation of the egg in the uterus. I had something more than that with my first pregnancy.
It was a little different from my normal period but seemed heavy enough to be a period. I used that period as the date of my last period. It screwed up my whole due date! My son was born 3 weeks "early." When I look back, it was more like 2 weeks late:) Then with my other two, I bled off and on for several days with each for a couple of months. It was brownish in color so the doc didn't worry too much.
If you are ever concerned or nervous about it, contact your doctor. There is already so much stress during pregnancy; don't let bleeding add to it. And just keep an eye on any changes.
It happened to me with a couple of pregnancies-it was always scary and I always had it checked out-and I think you should too -if it happens again.
I didn't, but my mom did with me.
She actually thought she was pregnant and sent her urine to the doctor's office with my dad on the way to work one morning (this was before the days of home tests). She got to work and "started" and went and put a tampon in.
Like 3 hours later, the doctor's office called and told her she was pregnant. She told them she couldn't be; she was on her period and had a tampon in.
The nurse told her to hang up, take the tampon out and get to their office ASAP.
She had a period again the next two months.
With both my kids, I got a very light "period" the first month I was pregnant. Apparently it is pretty normal, and if you ever watch that show "I didn't know I was pregnant" is pretty common.
For my 3rd I had bleeding with periods for a few months and later bleeding in general. I had a high risk pregnancy, and lots of bed rest. It was better for the last couple of months, but ended with heavy bleeding, a detaching placenta and a race to the hospital for emergency c-section. Keep an eye on it! Don't over exert yourself.
I did with my second baby but not with my first. I think some spotting is common in the first trimester, but you should still mention it to your doctor. Mine did an ultrasound just to be sure everything was ok (it was).
