Bleeding Postpartm

I bled for 4 full weeks after my son was born (he's 5 1/2 wks now) and then things stopped. Now I'm starting to spot again a dark red/brown color. Is it normal to begin spotting again? And then it'll stop for one day and start up the next again. Then some days it's yellowish and there is always a foul odor, even right after I get out of the shower I can smell myself. Pretty yucky. I'm thinking maybe yeast infection? I have my appointment Tuesday, but I was just curious meantime.

Also, there wouldn't be part of the placenta left would there? I'm just not sure what this spotting means. There's not a lot, so that is probably not the case.

Thanks for any help!

What can I do next?

With a foul odor, it sounds more like a bacterial infection. If you also have a mild fever, I'd call your doctor today. If not, you can wait until Tues.

Good Morning B., The odor may be a infection of some kind, not really sure. The brown stopping my Dr. told me it was old blood shedding. if it's a normal color red or bright it's ok. Some women do bled longer he others, depends on your hormones.
The yellowish color is a discharge. I have that now also, I had a Hysti in 87 and never thought I would use pads EVER again, but they do take care of the tinkles when I cough, sneeze or laugh. :( lol There is usually an odor with discharge. Your Dr. will figure out what is happening tomorrow.

As for placenta, They check very carefully after delivery to make sure all of it is intact. I would hope they wouldn't miss anything. There would probably be some pain or discomfort if a piece was missed.

God Bless you B. and will pray everything turns out Hunky Dorie for you tomorrow..
Congratulations to you and your husband on your new precious bundle.

The bleeding part is just because you had a baby not too long ago and your body is trying to get back to normal. Give that time.

The odor could be the same, getting back to normal.. or it could mean a sign of infection. Just make sure your doctor knows about it.

Postpartum bleeding is different with everyone they say it takes 6 wks to stop and before that time you can start & stop spot if its s foul odor it could be an infection or maynot be depending on how it smells we all have odor going on down there even after bathing.
My 2nd baby I did't bleed much after her it stopped after 2 weeks or so I didn't have a period right away either but when she was 3 months old I had tp rush to the ER I woke up to use the bathroom & starting to lose blood lots of it I thought I was going to die huge clots as if I had delivered another baby. They told me it was my hormones & from postpartum depression. They didn't find any placenta remains. But it happened again a month later & I choose to do a D&C to make sure it wasn't cancer or somethng else. After that I was ok.
My 3rd baby I was afraid to have her in fear of the worst & sure enough hrs aftr delivery I bleed the nurse had to go in an manually remove all the clots that was horrible I was given a shot to contract my placenta breastfeeding wasn't good enough. So it is a good idea if you have any questions regarding your spotting to ask questions.
