I guess I'm not sure if it is normal or not but I got my period shortly after having my son and was nursing as well. That probably doesn't help much but hopefully can offer you some comfort.
I had a baby 12 weeks ago. I had the normal bleeding for 5 weeks after she was born and since then I will have a period every other week. I am on the minipill since I am breastfeeding. I am getting somewhat concerned since most people say they do not even have any periods on the pill or breastfeeding. Is it normal to bleed so much afterward?
Thank you everyone for your help and support. I have finally stopped bleeding so much and now I seem to just be having my regular period. I ended up calling the doc and they told me that I could be bleeding so much because I am pregnant again which kinda worried me because my baby was only 3 months old at the time. Well it turns out that I was not pregnant but it was just my body adjusting to the pill. I will admit I was scared to think of being pregnant again so soon after having a baby but I was also a little excited. Oh well the time will come when it is time to have another one. Thank you all again for your help.

After I had my daughter, I had almost 6 weeks postpartum bleeding. I got a prescription for the mini pill but never filled it. I did ask though and the nurse told me that I could have irregular bleeding at first, or if I did not take the pill at teh same time every day. She told me same time means within a 1 hr time frame every single day. You could call about it but if you just started the pill it is possible you have to wait for your body to get used to it. As for breast feeding and period, everyone is different. My first were over a yr before I got anything. My little one was 7 months. I bf'd all of them so not the same all the time.
Hmmmm. I might call the doctor - everyone is so different, though.
I only bled for 2 weeks after having DS. Then, no period at all until I went back on the pill. I think I was probably 12 weeks post partum when I had my first period after birth.
I didn't breastfeed, so I don't know what's normal.
I too bled for a long time after my second child was born. I went to the doctor for my six week check up and they had trouble doing it because I was bleeding.
I was breastfeeding and on the mini pill.
Are you having large clots? I had those also with my second child (after her birth)
My doc said everything was fine, but if I were you I would have it checked out.
Good luck!
i had the same exact problem after having my daughter. i looked my pill up online and looked at the side effects.... frequent periods is one of them. i went off the pill and the frequent periods stopped. my periods were also every other week. try looking for your pill online and see if that is the case. then talk to your doctor :)
For me, I bled anywhere from 2-8 weeks with each of my kids and I never started a period for at least 9 months while nursing. But my dr did tell me I should carry around pads/pantyliners for at least 3 months because you could go a week or more with no bleeding and then start again. I guess for you it depends how much you are bleeding. Is it a lot like a period? One of the other mammas mentioned maybe your body isn't used to the pill yet? When did you start the pill? If it continues, I would call the doc, maybe she should change your pill. I would not worry too much, but I know it is a annoying to be regular. Hang in there.
