Bleach

Hello, I deleted my old post - I am just wondering if there are truely any side effects to prolonged use of bleach for cleaning? My child care person uses and extremely large amount of bleach and I am not all that certain how diluted it is because I can smell it when I go to drop off or pick up my child. I LOVE that she keeps her house clean, but is it harmful to my under 2 year old to breathe this EVERY day??? Just a little note - I didn't bring up the "worry" about how the fumes might affect the children, my daycare lady did!

What can I do next?

The bleach is not bad in small amounts. But we use 1 gallon in 3 MONTHS! She's using way too much and that's not even necessary for what she's trying to achieve.

The candles are a huge no no in my book. First of all, you said burning. I use flameless candles and they look nice. But, smell wise.... She is poisoning those kids!

I LOVE bleach but ONY use it when EVERYBODY is gone. I send them AWAY for hours.

That is total overload. Same with the candles. TOOOOO MUCH!

If there's no change I'D make a change ASAP!

No, I would not want that around my child either. I worry about bleach...I used cloth diapers primarily but when I used disposables, I only used chlorine free bc I was that concerned about trying my best to minimize toxins around my baby (I know I can't prevent everything in this toxic world). I try to use "green" cleaners 99% of the time. On rare occassion, I do think bleach is needed but I won't use it around my son and make sure to give the room plenty of time to air out before letting him near it. Some daycares are more green than others with their cleaners but I believe when bleach is used it is to clean after hours when the child is not there. ....I don't see how someone would need 3 gallons per week to keep their home clean.

Diluted bleach breaks down quickly to salt and water and is very effective for disinfecting surfaces.
She is aware of the need for good ventilation.
Where my son went to daycare they used a %5 bleach solution for cleaning surfaces and changing tables - you can't even smell it.
If it bothers you so much, you may have to find another day care, but I don't think she's doing anything wrong or out of the ordinary.
She'll have no trouble filling the spot left when you leave because most people are thrilled when a day care is diligent about keeping clean.

I clean my house with bleach (Clorox to be specific). Bleach kills germs.

I'd be thankful that a day care provider was taking every precaution to make sure her house is germ free since she has little ones running around all day.

You do realize how long bleach has been around? If it were THAT bad and killing people, I think we would hear about it.

I can think of plenty other things that are worse to worry about.

I think it is sick how the media hypes everything up, blows it WAY out of proportion to increase their ratings and create fear among those who tend to live in fear.
