LOVED IT!!! But I also like movies that are suspense thrillers and that are slightly twisted ... we all have a "dark side" and I love to see how others get to "act out" thier dark side thru film, it is safe and almost limitless.
Did you love it or hate it? Was it raunchy and gross or did you enjoy it? My husband and I recently watched it on video and I had wanted to see it, but thought I might not like it. I actually REALLY liked it. Having been a ballerina for 16 years, it was easy to relate to in many ways. I just found it provocative, edgy, just suspenseful and gruesome enough and very artistic.
Just wondering what others thought

I loved it. It was intense and exciting. I liked the suspense and getting to see into her twisted mind. The only thing I didnt like was the nightmare sequence where her legs broke and she fell down. That was kind of cheesy special affects. I found it unbelievable that her rival was an undiciplined party girl. That part seemed pretty far fetched in contrast to the plot of the movie being about the demanding rigid disciplined world of ballet. I thought her rival would've been someone just as driven and disciplined. But, since she was battling herself throughout the movie maybe that was the point. Maybe that chick represented the wild side of herself trying to break free. Yeah, that's probably it. Hey thanks for letting me talk that through! We need to form a book club for movies so we can discuss.
LOVED IT!!!
One of my favorite horror dramas. I made me laugh, cry, jump out of my seat, and almost vomit a little. Perfect..... I was also very impressed with Natalie's foot work. For only 9 months of training, she was phenomenal! I truely believe it was one of her best works as an actress.
Loved it. Dark, twisted with beautiful dancing!
I didn't love it until after I had processed the movie. I prefer movies like this, dark, dangerous, movies about the ugly side of humanity/life.
I went to the theater to see it. I snuck off and saw it all by myself! i was dissapointed. i thought the plot of her twisted thoughs could have been much deeper. i also never could figure out how old she was. her room was very childish but she was old enough to go drink at a bar. i suppose i got spoiled to sundance channel and independent films because they truly push the envelop. i am glad you liked it though your the first person that said liked it. i felt the same about twilight. it seemed like a great movie if i were much younger (teens, early twenties). but i do like off beat movies (eternal sunshine, donnie darko, boondock saints, what dreams may come) so it might just be my personality. i would watch it again though, i was just hoping for more. * after reading others responces i did want to add the skin tearing did weird me out but i have issues with rubbing skin the wrong way *
I watched it too and loved it. A couple scenes freaked me out but thats alright. I think she did an awesome job!
I would watch it again. ;)
I have mixed feelings on it... it was veery weird. I watched it with my FIL and SIL, so some scenes were a bit akward... lol. Overall though, I liked it. Mainly because I can usually guess what's going to happen in a movie, but not this one! lol.
I loved it, i thought it was very twisted with understated thrilling aspects. My husband hated it, even though there was a lesbian scene.lol
Im so sick of the same old thrillers, it was tastefully done and the mirroring between the play and her own insanity was awesome.
It was a freaky, weird, messes-with-your-mind movie and I loved it! It was different, to say the least. I loved how it represented someone's mind while dedicated to their art. All artists, not even dancers, are just like that in one way or another.
I loved all the suprises and Barbara Hershey's role was wicked creepy and fantastic.
I have a question about the end but not sure how to ask w/o giving it away...
Hated it. Didn't think it was raunchy or gross...I just thought the ballerina seemed like a sniveling little girl.

Jackie, she told her age in the movie. She was 28. She had a confrontation with her mother where she snapped back "I'm 28, I'll do what I want" or something to that effect. Her mother was controlling and she was finally rebelling away from her childhood. Took her long enough. I liked the show but I'm glad I didn't watch it in the theater with my mom or dad. I'm 32 myself and not a prude in any way but there were scenes that I would have felt uncomfortable watching while bumping elbows with my parents.
I thought it was absolutely wonderful. I would have liked it if they had used someone who actually knew how to dance, because her 'faked' dance routines were not very convincing, but maybe it wouldn't have been the same without Natalie Portman. One of the best movies I've seen recently!
I could take it or leave it. I thought Natalie Portman did an excellent job, but the movie didn't grab me.
