I found a cute idea to make coal for Christmas stockings by adding Wilton black icing color to a rice crispy treat recipe, but I don't want to stain my kids mouths black for all of Christmas day. Any ideas on alternatives black edible dye?
Use Cocoa Pebbles or Chocolate Rice Crispie treats instead...not as dark and should still work fairly well.
Licorice. Stain washes out right away.
Don't dye the whole batch, just something to roll it in. That way there shouldn't be enough to dye their teeth.
Then again even if their teeth were dyed the jokes would be fun. You made them eat their coal..... :p
What about just wrapping them in black tissue paper? I like the cocoa idea too.
what a cute idea! no suggestions.... but I guess worse case scenario give them as a laugh and have them wait until the next day to eat them. Not as fun, but I guess it depends on their age. Mine is 6 and I could talk him into eating something else and saving his "coal".
