Okay, I posted this a few days ago, and I really need the help. I know all babies bite when they are teething and I know that they don't understand that it is bad to bite mom. Even though I know these things, it doesn't help. IF you have EVER breastfeed a child, please help me. I cannot get her to eat out of a bottle and I am increased her babyfood intake and given her milk from her cup to slow down how much she nurses, but if I don't find out a way to get her to stop biting me while nursing I am going to have a serious problem. PLEASE help me!!
My six month old has one tooth that is out and she is breastfeed. She is biting and I am in sooooo much pain. Tonight she bit me so hard I actually bled, I honestly didn't know that I could bleed there, but we are always learning new things. How do I prevent my 6 month old from bitting me? I am at a loss, I know that she doesn't know any better, but it has to stop. Please help!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

She has thankfully stopped biting. There was only the one really bad bite. I started giving her more baby food and less nursing. She now has two teeth and I don't see any more coming in. Hopefully it won't be a problem again. Thank you all for your help.

I honestly don't know how much I can help you, but I will just let you know what I did. I nursed my son until he was 10 months old. He NEVER took a bottle. He wouldn't drink a bottle even if it was breastmilk. Towards the end he did have quite a few teeth and was always biting, but there wasn't anything I could do to get him to stop. I put up with the biting for as long as I could handle the bleeding until I had enough. I left him with my mother for a week and went to Florida. She transitioned him to a sippy cup with regular milk and he started eating a lot more solids. I went about it this way because my Dr. had said the baby could smell the breastmilk if I tried to give him a bottle or sippy and that someone else needed to be the one to transition him. I was LONG overdue for a vacation so this just seemed to work out for us. I will say that I am sure there are lots of moms who transition differently (most moms I know their baby stopped nursing on his/her own and they didn't have to do anything) and that Dr. is no longer our doctor bc I thought she was a little quacky so maybe her theory is too. Good Luck!

Gee S. I wish I could help you! When I breastfed my kids I stopped before teeth. It sure can't be much fun. I'd keep plugging away a the bottle and try other types of bottles or nipples. Maybe you just haven't found one that he likes. Have you asked your Dr. what to do? He/She may have some advice.

Good luck!
S.

My son went through a period where he like to chew on me too. I had read somewhere to pull them into you when they bite to get them to release. If you pull away from them chances are they won't let go and then you cause yourself even more pain. When you pull their face into you the baby will open their mouth to try to catch a breath. I am not suggesting you sofocate her, just get her to release. Even though it is hard try not to scream because that reaction actually is a reinforcement for them. Then once she releases take her away from the breast and make her wait for awhile before you offer it to her again. I was lucky and my son grew out of this pretty quick and only does it on rare occasion now. Good Luck to you.

With both of my girls (one was breastfed for a year, and the other 9 months) when they got their first teeth it was an issue. I just GENTLY pinched their cheek and said no biting, and they let go. Also I gave them PLENTY of biting time that had nothing to do with breastfeeding. My best discovery was the little waffles that are like 4 that make the size of a peice of toast. I gave them to them frozen, and let them bite away. It numbed thier gums and was rough enough to break the tooth through. When it thaws enough to get peices off, take it away and give them a new one. Stick through it, this will pass. good luck
