Bed bugs will come out at night. They are black and look like little beetles about the size of an ant. Do you notice little gray spots on her sheets? If you do, that's their poop. You have to look at night using a flashlight.
My two year old has these dime size bites all over her poor little body. I've taken her to the doctor an of course she was stumped had no idea told me to check for bed bugs. So I checked an I'm not seeing bugs in the beds or furniture. My daughter has about 20 bites on just her head an a bunch all over her body. She's digging at them because they itch so bad my other two kids are not being bitten but last night I did find two bites on my son's leg. I'm lost I'm so drained from crying I hate seeing my child suffer.

Things that help with itching: aloe, tea tree oil (which will also chase any new bugs away), honey, cucumber, eucalyptus oil, peppermint oil...
Are you sure it's not chicken pox?
Your being upset and crying makes this harder in your children. They need to see you strong and able to take care of them. In life, bug bites are very minor. If you can't face bug bites in a confident manner how will you manage when something serious comes along?
My granddaughter had serious eczema at that age. Of course her mother and I hated to see her suffer. Because we handled it in a calm matter of fact way she saw her very itchy rash as something that could be managed. She has grown into a confident high schooler. Her eczema has never been a reason to feel less than other kids or an excuse to not do certain things.
I suggest that your children need to know bug bites aren't serious and that you are going to solve this riddle. When you cry the will think this is serious and will negatively affect their life long term.
We used to get fleas in our previous house and the bites would be dime sized, but I think they were fairly flat with a small raised bump in the middle. They would be in the one carpeted room in the house (when they were really bad we could run our hand across the carpet and they would sometimes pop up). They came in on our clothes from the back yard.
Maybe an exterminator would be able to tell you what they are? Plus I would start googling images of different types of bug bites to see if one looks similar (especially since your son has some now so I assume allergic reaction to something is ruled out).
there are medical website with pictures. You can google them or try this one:

Could be any of the things mentioned below. Please go to the pharmacy and ask for some over the counter anti itch stuff to help her with the scratching, and if it doesn't get better take her back to the doctor.
I'm concerned that you are "drained for crying" over this. I mean look, none of us enjoys seeing our kids suffer but you need to be a strong capable adult here. If you cry over something as common as bug bites how will you deal with all the truly devastating things that could/may happen to your children, major illness, broken bones, broken hearts? You need to get strong mama, your kids need that!
fleas or mosquitos? when my son gets bitten by a mosquito, they swell up to dime size...
As I understand it, bedbugs bite in a row or cluster. What about chiggers?
The best treatment I've used for bites is cleaning ammonia. Dab a little bit on the bite and surrounding area. It's the only think that works when I get bit by mosquitos. I was getting eaten alive all summer by mosquitos. I have a couple scars now because of it. My friend recommended the cleaning ammonia and it was a life saver.
Have you checked for lice? Have they been playing in the grass? Do you have pets? I would check for any spiders living under the bed or behind the bed.
I'm so sorry your kids are going through this. It really sucks.
If you know anyone who uses essential oils that would knock out the itch. Try lavender or peppermint. Try for the quality stuff, but if you don't know anyone. I believe HEB has "off" brands you could try.
Sounds like fleas - which are a pain to eradicate - or possibly mosquitoes. But the cluster of them on her head doesn't sound like mosquitoes. I'd guess spiders as a possibility - very itchy and they tend to occur in batches. In the northeast, we have May flies (or black flies) but those are in the spring -- but they have vicious itchy bites that spread to 1-4 inches across in redness with skin very warm to the touch.
Use any of the anti-itch natural remedies you'll find - cornstarch or oatmeal baths, etc. Try NOT to put anything on them because rubbing causes more itching. Ice helps but your 2 year old may not sit still for it. Put an anti-itch cream on a bandaid and place the bandaid over the worst bites. You may want to put thin mittens or gloves on your child at night to stop the scratching.
Go to another doctor. Your doc should've referred you to someone else, researched the bites or discussed with her colleagues. Saying "I have no idea" wouldn't sit well with me.
Also, a friend of mine just dealt with bedbugs and told me that the trick to seeing the bugs is to leave the lights off in your room (they come out in the dark), get a flashlight and shine it on the mattress. If there are bugs you will see them scatter like crazy.
This sounds like fleas or chiggers. Did she play outside? Roll around on the ground at the park? My sister used to get chigger bites everywhere on her body all the time and I'd have maybe 1 or 2 around my ankles.
If you google how to deal with chigger bites there should be some suggestions about putting stuff into warm water then letting them soak in it. Maybe Epsom salts? Oatmeal stuff is pretty easy to find on the soap isle in Walmart too. There are many things you can put in clean water then let her get in and play. She'll not itch as much and it's not a med that effects her whole body like Benadryl. She can be in the water several times per day too.
I'd see about putting a cheap plastic cover over her box springs and then mattress. Get a nice thick pad to go on top so she won't sweat like crazy. Then change out her bedding completely.
I haven't seen bedbugs anywhere and can't really help about that.
Wow - some scary advice here. I wouldn't put anything on her that isn't approved for ages 3 and under. If this is a real question, I'd go back to the doctor, or try a different one. Oddly, we've found urgent care is often helpful when our regular docs dismiss too much.
i'm betting mosquitoes. we're all used to bugs here, living on a farm, but some of the hay we got this summer had MONSTER mosquitoes living it. weirdly, we didn't see or hear them, but we all had huge, incredibly itchy bites that tortured us for weeks. it happened in august and i've still got faint blotches where they were!
we don't go to the doctor for stuff like that, but my dh had a physical and his doctor told him that they were indeed mosquito bites. the ones on our torsos got so huge and unbearable because they're on protected skin, and it's true that the bites on our arms, while just as obnoxious, went away a lot quicker.
stop crying. your kids need a strong competent mother. it's bug bites, not ebola. get some over the counter itch-stop, and give her an antihistamine to help with the itching, and don't turn this into a drama.

The doc should know if they are bedbug bites.
check under the boxsprings, check around the floor board in the room. You will see dark spots (blood) from their feces.
