Birthmark

My son had a huge and puffed up strawberry on his head, the Dr. told me to do nothing about that is would go away and I was horrified because it was so big and he didn't get hair until he was over one, but at two it is flat and sooo much smaller and they say it will be gone before he is five. So maybe just wait before putting the baby though some kind of treatment.

Is it a temporary one or a permanent one? My daughter had a birthmark that stayed until over a year old. It eventually faded away and now at 21 months, I can't see where it was at all. It was on her eyelid and on her upper lip.

my son had a little "angel kiss" on his eye lid when he was a little guy too. My Dr. actualy refused to do anything about it until after he was 2... well, by the time he hit 1 it was completely gone. Just talk to the Ped. and either get a referal, or get his opinion!

Like the other moms said, if this is the temporary type it will just clear up on its own.

If it should turn out that it doesn't clear up within a few years however, there are really amazing treatments out there now. My cousins first child had a very permanent red mark that covered about a quarter of her face. When she was old enough she had laser skin treatments to fade it out -- worked wonderfully. They waited until she was about 9 or 10 to have it done (no money or good insurance) and by then she was very self conscious. Then someone told her about Shriner's Hospital, and they were able to get it done there. My niece is a happy and confident teenager now.

I would talk to your Pediatrician about it. My daughter also had a strawberry birth mark on her face at birth that has since gone away. She is now 2yrs old.

When my son was born, he had a hemangioma on his right cheek.His pediatrician referred to it as a strawberry. He said not to be alarmed, because it would disappear by the time he was 3 years old. And it did just that. I can't even tell where it used to be. Is it a hemangioma? Or something else I wonder. The best you can do if you're not sure, and you don't agree with your pediatrician, is see someone who specializes in skin disorders, and see what their opinion is. I'm sure you have nothing to worry about. Take care.

Give it time. They usually disappear by the time they are 5 years old. Unless it's really large or pertrudes. My daughter had one near her eye and it was shaped like a heart. I was sad when it went away. But when she gets upset you can still see where it used to be. So, if it's not medically causing an issue, just give time a chance.

My Daughter has a heart shaped strawberry by her right temple. At it's biggest it was about the size of a nickle. She is now 17 months and it is not as puffy as it used to be. Since she turned one year it has been changing. It used to be very bright red now it is faded and almost gone. In the beginning I was really worried about it and thought everyone noticed it. Now I don't even notice it anymore. I will be a little sad when it is gone because it means she is getting older and it is just another thing she has grown out of. :(

My daughter also had a birthmark from her widows peak through her forehead and down the bridge of her nose. People (even a doctor once) would ask me if I dropped her. Now at 8 it is almost invisible, only showing in a small part at her hairline when she tans and it tans darker. I'd say it was gone by 2.

I'd wait a little longer my daughter had one that faded at about 9 months. I don't think most Dr's will do anything before the first year but observe it.

My oldest son who is now 3 was born with a red mark on his forehead which was very visible but it has since faded a bit...I can still see it but its not as bad as when he was litle. Did you ask the Doc if it would go away? My doc said it would go away...I am still waiting.
