Just my opinion....but its his birthday!!! Who wants carrot sticks for a treat??? My kids take donuts. =)
My little guy is turning 7 (holy cow how is he 7 already?!) and he wants to bring treats to school tomorrow to celebrate. I am looking for some creative but easy to obtain ideas for treats/snacks. He wants dilly bars, not gonna happen due to timing and lack of freezer space. Of course, next thought is cupcakes, but all the sugar and no originality! The school prefers healthier treats, as do I. Any ideas? Anything I bring cannot be homemade, must be store bought, per school rules. Thanks!
Gamma G - I understand, and support, the reason behind the school rule. I was simply telling everyone that said rule exists so no one would suggest me making something at home, which was the point of my question (asking for suggestions on treats).
Mz Kitty - you are funny! Don't worry, I wouldn't send the child with carrots. I didn't mean THAT healthy! I think donut holes and apple slices with caramel are the winners!!

Our stuff is required to be packaged as well. We get Fruit Roll Ups, Rice Krispy Treats, Smarties, Swedish Fish.....
The apple and caramel dips are a great suggestion. My bonus kids love bagels with strawberry, blueberry, etc. cream cheese and nutella. You could purchase mini bagels (packaged), nutella (found in peanut butter isle), and Philedelphia flavored cream cheeses paired with a fruit tray and put it together at school. You can also purchase banana and/or zuchini bread (muffins). Or, a sandwich tray cut into finger pieces or the little rolls they do with torillas at the delis. Put some nutella in a little cup (the plastic kind) and cut bananas/apples, etc. Have the kids dip with pretzel sticks (used as toothpicks). Pair with a fruit tray. Get some party hats and make a little poster sign that says, "Happy Birthday."
It could be a non-food item - tattoos. crayons, stickers, a board game for the class...
100 calorie packs of cookies/pretzels/chex mix. Plus they'd be easy to transport to school.
My boys took Combos (a variety pack) for their last snack. They were a big hit. I got a big box at Menards for $2.50 with 12 little packages in it. Pretty good deal too.
my daughter raved about the mom who brought the McDonalds Yougurt Parfaits to class - she loved them and that has become a staple for her on her McDonalds visits - in second grade she thought the fruit kabobs that someone made were awesone - is putting fruit on a stick considered homemade?
We took Ice Cream Sandwiches a lot through our our elementary school years.
The treat can be non-food as well - are those eraser buddies still popular in elementary school or the silly bands? I have middle schoolers now so there is no more birthday treats (although occassionally someone does bring in a pack of gum for the entire class).
Good Luck!
My kids like to bring the Entenmann's little bites that are blueberry muffins or Gripz rainbow cookies. Both are peanut /treenut free . happy birthday to your son =)
Sliced apples and carmel dip?
For years my kids have asked for (even tho I am an excellent baker and school rules) fruit kabobs on curley straws. Then I wrap each one and put curly ribbon on them. They kids really like them.
Happy bithday to your little one.
