Hey Moms. I've got to take some treats to school for my 9 year old daughters bday. She's in 4th grade and I've just hit a road block when it comes to ideas. We've done the bday cookie, cupcakes, regular cookies, ect. Looking for something fun and new that would appeal to her "9 year old tastes" (ha ha). No dietary restrictions so any suggestions would be extremely welcome!

TIA!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

THANKS!! I love the ideas you've all shared and I'm going to pass them along and let her choose. I will definitely refer back to this when I need ideas for other class parties too!!

Hi K.-

I have done 'all' the home made goodies for B day treats in school over the years...but...to be honest...ice cream sandwiches always went over 'better' than my time consuming home made stuff...

Just a thought!
Happy Day to your daughter!

Edible Arrangements- check out their website and see if you have a store near you. One of my former students' mother did this for him and it was so delicious! They did chocolate-dipped fruit kebabs. She ordered it the first year and then made them herself the next using fresh fruit, the store-bought chocolate made for "dipping" and marshmallows. HUGE HIT- and borderline healthy!

What about donuts or donut holes. Do you have a Dunkin' Donuts near you? They have awesome holes, called Munchkins. Ice cream was a good suggestion too. I'm sure if you ask the teacher a day or two before she can put them in the freezer in the kitchen or lounge and retrieve them when needed.

How about those cupcakes you bake in an icecream cone? Cake cones? Those are a hit!

I bought the individual ice cream cups and brought in sprinkles, and different sauces, and other fun stuff and had the kids make sundaes. Also what about themed chocolate pops. You and your daughter can make these together. You can buy different molds and different colors of chocolate. then wrap them with cute ribbons and a small bag or saran wrap. I liked the pizza idea, fruit or donuts.... all of the ideas sounded great...have fun and good luck.

Is your school a store bought only school? I don't know if KS has restrictions but many of the MO schools do, which makes it even harder to be creative or exciting. Anyways, I took pizza for my son's birthday at school. Do you have a Little Caesar's near you? I went there & they have the $5 pizzas, picked up 4 & had them (LC) cut the pieces in half, so the kids each got at least two. They loved it! I did that for a class party, also & all of the kids remember me as the mom who brings pizza (& Mountain Dew, one time). Another thing if your school is a store bought only (or you don't like to bake, etc.) our principal cleared me bringing in a crock pot in the morning & using a crockpot liner, then opening & adding the gallon can of cheese for nachos & cheese there at the school, so technically it was prepared at the school & under supervision, & it stayed on warm all day until it was time to be served. We used gloves for the chips. They also let me do that with frozen meatballs, li'l smokies & bbq sauce. The kids like the "junk food" stuff more than the sweets.

for my 10th birthday I had a tea party (like a Victorian "english tea" party). My grandmother helped me plan it, and we had "petit fours", "biscuits" (cookies), finger sandwiches.. etc. Everyone dressed it their finest dresses (my grandma went over the top and actually re-sized prom dressed for everyone from a thrift store- so we all were super fancy) and we set up tables on the porch with white tablecloths (or, sheets) and of course we had real english tea! We even played croquet in the back yard. It was my last "kid" birthday party and it was a blast! Anyways it was a "big kid" type of themed party!

We did "dirt cups" one year and it was a big hit. Layer crushed oreos and chocoloate pudding mixed with whipped topping in a small cup. Top with crushed oreos and place one or two gummy worms on top. I have also done apple slices and cheese for a healthier snack.

How about vanilla yogurt served in little clear plastice cups and serve a choice of four toppings; strawberries, sprinkles, cholocate and/or another fruit. It's nice and refreshing. You can get there early and fill up cups, then set up assembly line and they do their own.

The most popular thing with my boys classes right now is doughnuts. We have a Krispy Kream not terribly far away and we just get the glazed.

Fruit by the Foot (fruit leather)

Brownies (from the store, already made)

My daughter is in 4th grade and they like that.

Cupcakes will be wasted. Many either don't like frosting or only like the frosting.

Cookies are boring.
