Help Mamas! My daughter's birthday tea party is next Saturday and everything is coming together except the craft. I cannot figure out what the heck to do for a craft. We already have floppy hats and gloves in the dress up clothes for the girls. I was thinking maybe those foam door hangers that the girls can decorate but will 6 and 7 year olds like to do that? Mine would but I don't know about others. We invited 19 girls and so far about 10 have rsvp'd. Any ideas ladies?

What can I do next?

I know you said you have floppy hats, but what about having them attach artificial flowers (or dried) to some cute straw hats for them to take home?

Or have them paint a dish?

How about decorating tea cups and saucers? Or, we went to a party today where they decorated little jewelry boxes (I think they were from Oriental Trading Company). I just went to OTC and did a search for "tea party crafts," so here are the results: http://www.orientaltrading.com/ui/search/processRequest.d...

Have fun!

My girls like the door hangers, they can say "The Princess is In" and "The Princess is Out" or some such. Our new playroom is a tea party theme and we're having such fun with it, but I don't know where to find cheap gloves and hats. My local resale shop wants $3.50 for the gloves and $20 for the hats, I just can't swing that!! Where did you find them?

They could do a craft with a tea cup set- you can use hotglue and put little flowers and/or a little bird inside. I bought tea cups and saucers at a resale shop, check often for them. Oh look, here's a whole website dedicated to it! http://www.tea-party-guide.com/crafts.html

i am hosting a little tea party for my 3 year old so these might be a little to young, but we are making fancy fans with construction paper- folding into accordians, attaching stickers, and threading beads onto ribbon and taping at the bottom to make little wrist loops for them to carry them around. we are making hats, but it sounds like you have that covered. we are also having a treasure hunt in the yard, i made a map of three places in the yard and drew them on a big map and am hiding stickers, fake jewlery, and chocolate coins for them to find. good luck!

I ordered some denim purses/bags from Oriental Trading for one of my daughter's birthday parties. They decorated them with puffy paint. They do take a little while to dry though so unless you can do them close to the beginning of the party, that may not be a good idea. Since it's a tea party, is there anything they could do that would involve decorating a tea cup? I think the foam is a good idea too. I know my daughter still enjoyed stuff like that at age 6-7. I hope the girls have a great time!

Hi A.,

We had a tea-party-themed birthday party where we decorated little tea cakes. I know that doesn't work as a favor, though, since you'd eat them at the party.

Other suggestions: Decorating mugs, maybe decorating gloves? Or maybe place mats? I'm just trying to go w/ the tea party theme. The foam door hangers are fun, too. If you don't do a lot of cutting w/ scissors, I don't see why it wouldn't be an appropriate craft for 6- and 7-year-olds.

Best,
R.

I was going to suggest doing tea cups too. You could probably find some at a retail shop or maybe buy some cheap white ones on-line, but it would be fun to decorate them and then fill them with tea or another beverage! Or they could make some jewelry like a necklace or bracelet craft or even maybe a broach if you have a hot glue gun to glue the pin backing on!
