Any craft...a stepping stone (target has kits for 5 bucks) make a messanger bag or anything of that sort. My 6 year old girl loves that kind of thing. I would spend no more than $15
My son became close with a little girl in his preschool class that we have started to see beyond preschool now. We have just gotten an invite to her and her brother's combined birthday party. What is appropriate for gifts? How much do you spend? Gift ideas for a girls 5th birthday (I only have boys) and a boy's 7th birthday (my boys are young)? Thanks so much!! Hope you have having a great week!

I have a "go to" gift for each age. For kids turning 5 we get lite brites. They sell them for $11 at TOysRUs. They are great for girls or boys, we just pick an appropriate color. They are also novel. Just don't forget the batteries, we pick those up at the dollar tree or Big Lots, since they need 4 "d" cell batteries.
My niece just turned 5 and I bought her several craft kits and she loved them! I actually found them at TJ Maxx and Michaels. I spent under $20 for all of them and there were 4 different kits. If she's into something specific (like gymnastics or ballet) you could do something along those lines like a new leotard and bag to carry her things or a personalized water bottle.
As for a 7 year old boy, that's tough and I think it depends on how well you know him! If you have become friendly with the mother, call her and ask what he is interested in. Worst case scenario, gift card is always appreciated!
These day little boys are into video games. I know that my seven year old is. One of my favorite things to buy for little girls are, Build A Bears, I think they are very unique. They make perfect keepsakes.
We love garden in a bag for kids. (We have the hare's tail grass growing right now) They get to color the outside of the bag ...water and watch the plant grow. Get the sunflower one. Ours was picked from a local bookstore. This site has then on sale http://www.branchhome.com/index.php?main_page=product_inf...
How about a butterfly garden for them to share. Cost around $30
If the little girl likes to play dress up - you could get her some dress up clothes (Target/Toys R Us has them. ) Polly Pockets are great. Or there are new dolls called La La Loopsy - they are adorable. There are big ones which are pricier and little ones - Polly Pocket sized that are cute and less expensive. Mosaic kits (the sticker kind) from Hobby Lobby or Michaels could be a good gift too. These are just some things my 5 yr old likes so I'm going off of that. If you know that the girl has a dress up doll - some clothes for the doll?
for the boy - hot wheels, legos, monster trucks. My son is 7 and he loves legos, cars, and books. Some chapter books are probably a great gift. Or if you want you can do a small gift with something from the above and throw in an icecream store gift card - since it is summer, it will be put to good use.
Good luck!
They have little craft kits to make a sign with the girls name for her bedroom, etc. Girls (generally) love crafts and then she an display it. That might be cute.
As for the boy, how about a Beyblade, Lego kit, Nerf football?
In the toy aisles there is a pink aisle. You can go into it and close your eyes and just grab anything, it will probably be appropriate. LOL.
I would get Polly Pockets. THey have all sorts of cute little packages with one or two dolls and a pet and clothes. They cost from $5 to $20.
Or Littlest Pet Shop, same deal with little animal characters.
Unless you know for sure that the mom is OK with Barbie stay away from her and Bratz dolls. Some moms find Bratz dolls offensive, some girls have too many Barbies already. At one time we had over 30 between 2 girls.
Kits to make things, soap, sand in bottles, painted china sets.
Jewelry/dress ups.
jumpropes, bubbles, sand toys
chalk, or one of those crayola chalk kits for the driveway
Moonsand
I would spend probably up to $10 on each. Or $20 on a combined gift, like an outside game, maybe a sprinkler flower, or something similar.
Go to the boy aisle, close your eyes and grab. :o)
Legos, legos, legos
Action figures, they are not cute like Polly Pocket, they're cool, come with names like Spiderman and Transformers, Star wars Superheros
Legos
MAtchbox cars with a race track
Legos
Mine were allowed shoot'em ups, they have a section in Walmart with a Western hat and little pistols, and all the gear
Legos
Nerf guns, nerf anything, balls, darts,
And don't forget about Legos.
My two boys loved, loved, loved Legos. My 10 yo still does.
I just noticed where you are from. My husband graduated from Dunlap High School.
I don't have any additional suggestions - good ones here - and I've gotten some ideas to keep in my back pocket for future parties! Good question
