Birthday Party Q... 2 Locations?

Would you find it odd to be invited to a birthday party (8yo) that had a sunny & rainy option?

Sunny - Backyard; swimming, smores, & bbq
Raining or Cold - Movie Theatre & Pizza

We never know what the weather will be in these parts (It can be 80 and sunny one day, and 50 and raining the next, and 75 and cloudy the day after that). I was having anxiety attacks for a solid month before his last outdoor party. Our house is too small to just move things indoors. Kiddo would really like to have a "mini-campout" in the back yard... but we can't count on the weather (even though it's summer). The other option just holding the party at the movie theatre.

What can I do next?

Considering where you live, I don't see any problem with stating two options. I think it is a great idea. One idea for a way to word the invite... give all the information like it is going to be held outside, swimming etc. Then at the bottom of the invite put something like "in the case of rainy or inclimate weather, we will hold the party at ..." I've seen invites like that and not thought it odd at all.

I think it's a great idea! Go for it and just call invitees the day before or so, so they know where to go. I recently brought my daughter to a party at the theater and she LOVED it. They called the night before because the time had changed a little and it all worked out great.

I don't think its strange at all! We always have a rainy weather clause (we get 80-100 inches of rain a year!!!)...

Just make sure that you have a phone number on the invite and instruct guests to CALL about 1 hour ahead of time...some peoples' idea of rain are different than yours. My in-laws are always confused because it could be raining at their house and clear at ours...

I think it's a great idea. I've had a few parties in April/May that had to be moved or rescheduled. Do you ever expect hail in late May? Better if the child is prepared for that possibility. I've had to quickly pull together an indoor party and then still have the outdoor activity (baseball game) 2 weeks later.

I think it's fine as long as you tell people when they'll no by. Something like 9am the morning of. If the two locations are near each other, that's even better.

Just make sure you have enough car seats/boosters for everyone, and the other parents are ok with you driving their kiddos around. Sounds like a great idea to me!

I think most people in the NW would understand 2 locations for a party especially if they know you don't have indoor space. Although 2 locations makes planning difficult for everyone.
Our playgroup regularly changes location due to weather.

Nope, I don't think its odd at all. I have also thrown a party which had sunny/rainy options. If it was sunny it was at a park and if it was rainy, it was at a school playground that had a cover.

I had the information on the invitation and then had contact information if it was iffy. It turned out to be sunny and warm that day, for which I am very grateful.

Good luck with your party! I hope you get sun!

I think it's a great idea!! Depending on the time of the party, maybe put something on there that if it's raining at all, you will call by 10AM to confirm the location with everyone? What is kind of rainy to some might not be to others.

I live in Portland and do understand. I think that this would be a great way to resolve the anxiety over weather. I like the way Val B. suggested wording it on the invitation.

Our unpredictable weather does make planning difficult. Last year for my granddaughter's 9th birthday, we planned a pool party at an indoor pool and then were going to go outside for the rest. My granddaughter suggested, actually begged, to have the rest of the party in my van, in which the seats fold down. So that was our standby position. It did rain and we did finish the party in the van. The kids thought it was so cool! There were 6 girls altogether.

No not odd at all.
Good Plan A and Plan B.
I think, other parents will appreciate the 2 plans as well... because we all 'worry' about the weather too, when going to an outdoor party.
It puts things in perspective.

Sounds fun!
Good luck,
Susan
