I am a cake decorator. Unless it is really hot or extremely humid, your cake should be fine. If it's really hot or humid, it may get a bit weepy, but it won't go bad. If it's a cake covered in fondant, it is recommended NOT to refrigerate those. If it's butter cream, butter cream can sit out unrefrigerated for up to three days. If it's simply a matter of no place to put the cake while you bowl, stick it in a cooler, so it doesn't get bumped or knocked over (I wouldn't recommend leaving it in the car).
