Hi all, what fun things have you done to celebrate your child's first birthday? My daughter turns one in three months and I'd like to do something creative, but not extravagant. Thanks for your feedback!

We had a bubble birthday. I bought a bubble machine at Target and used it outside, and put bubble wrap on the floor inside for the kids to walk on. It wasn't expensive and they loved it! Even the big kids. We gave out Mr. Bubble bubble bath with a balloon tied to it for favors, and everything was pink!pink!pink!

Hi T.,

My daughter turned one in January and I did a modest, inexpensive birthday. The theme was cupcake I purchased generic plates with cup cakes on them. Pink cups with polka dots. Different decor at the Dollar store with different shades of pink. I had Wal Mart make a cupcake Cake out of cupcakes. I can send you a picture of it. And food was home made simple but good.

Since she is 1 I didn't do games just kids music, food, and cake.

Oh yeah the ice cream too.

Dallas has a free spray park where we all just went for a 2-yr old's party.

For 1-year old's it might work. :-) I would say, making sure that everyone has a good nap that day will make any party a success!

Since we don't have a lot of friends or family with kids, we threw a party for ourselves that we made it through the first year. Friends and family came. Our son played with a single helium balloon for about an hour! And then he found the dangling party decorations and spent the rest of the party pointing to and batting at those. If you don't have a lot of other kids to invite, then just keep it simple. By the time they are five, they'll want something more, so just keep the extra $ in your pocket for now.
