I want to have a birthday party for my 5 and 7 yr old kids, boy/girl. I want to do a Luau/Tiki Iparty and need some ideas on food and games to play. I do a party every year for them with a theme and when the kids' party is over it turns into an "adult" celebration. Any ideas would be great. Thanks

What can I do next?

We did a luau for my sons grad party. foods we did were

fruit kabobs (huge hit)
pinapple wings (sort of a sticky sweet chicken wings)
bbq ribs separtated into 2 rib portions
cheese cube tray
baked beans
veggie tray
rice
some salads
italian beef
pinapple upside down cake

we had limbo, bags n hoola hoops for games,
you can get a great cd at party city with luau type music
loads of decorations at the dollar stores right now

we got really cute invitations at the party city there were clear bottles w/sand in them and some little bitty decorations also inside you fold up a note (message in a bottle lol) with all the party stuff. they can be mailed thru the post office. people loved them. still talking about them today 7 years later.
we also got really cute coconut glasses and straws with hibiscus flowers on them.

Check out www.birthdaypartyideas.com
It has kid and adult ideas, and has a ton of info! I nomally look up the theme I'm interested in, those that are more recent, for a child close to the same age, and those that have received awards to narrow it down. Have fun!!

You need to dance the conga!!
If you don't want to do skewers of meat and veggies for the kids, you could do hot dogs on their skewers... Or do fruit skewers.
Just decorate with grass skirts... Umbrellas... fun colored lights.. and it will be a blast!

Games:
Limbo, Marshmallow on a spoon race, 3 legged race, wheelbarrow race, you can always play Twister --- that takes a lot of time and tires the kids out... Pin the nose on the donkey...

YMMV

Limbo! Hula Hoop contest! You could also do a toss the coconut contest (like lawn darts with coconuts).

For food, BBQ. And of course, fruity drinks with little umbrellas in them. The kids will love those : )

Clearly, I think this party sounds like a lot of fun : )

For food you could have kebabs (buy those wooden skewers) - meat and vegetables grilled on a stick. Also, I think a fruit salad would be in keeping with the theme.

You could buy those decorative umbrellas for all the beverages, even the kids. Lots of fun.

All the best,

K.
