don't forget the small train just outside the Fort Worth Zoo, the Forest Park Miniature Train. Very cute and there are picnic tables all around that area that you could use. Not sure what the weather will be in May though. http://www.fpmt.us/
My son will turn 3 in late May and I am trying to get on the planning because we are expecting a baby in early May. He is OBSESSED with trains!! So I want something that has trains. He loves Thomas of course but really any type of train setting will work. Can you guys let me know of all the birthday party options that include trains?? There used to be a place in Grapevine Mills that had trains the kids could ride on, train tables, etc... but it closed and I cant find anything else like it anywhere. I am looking for something not outrageously expensive and also something as easy as possible ( seeing as I will have a 3 wk old around this time!) We probably wont have that many kids--under 10 for sure. Any and all ideas I would appreciate!! I really want to make this birthday special since I am sure he is gonna feel so much change around this time with the new baby. Thank you!!

Hi L.!
For my sons birthday we did the Forest Park Mini Train. The train only cost $2.50 for kids and $3.00 for adults. The trian ride is about 40 minutes - you ride the train one way, turn and start coming back. Then there is a spot that they stop for you to get off and stretch your legs, before returning the rest of the way back. After we rode the train, there is a covered pavilion across the street. We rented the pavilion for $25 (I think, its been a while!). We had the pavilion for a couple of hours. There is a swing set beside the pavilion that the kids loved to play on. I brought a nugget tray from Chick Fil A and drinks and the cake. It was a great birthday! Happy Birthday to your little man!
You might call BNSF, they have a facility in Saginaw. Maybe you can go to the station and he could learn how they operate trains.
Indoor Safari Park in Southlake and I think there is one at the Galleria has little trains kids can ride.
Little train kids can ride at Town East Mall in Mesquite
Forest Park Miniature Railroad near Ft. Worth Zoo
Fort Worth Zoo has a train
There is the Museum of the American Railroad in Fair Park that offers birthday parties for a reasonable price. We haven't been yet but it looks like it would be a fun birthday!

We have a 4 year old that was really into trains at 2 years old. We had his 2 year old birthday party at Trinity Park Mini Train in Fort Worth. It is by the Fort Worth Zoo. They have a covered area with picnic tables. We used 2 of the tables and decorated the area there. We brought a few other fold up type chairs for adults. We made our own train cake and had Thomas the train plates,cups,etc... You can buy 25 tickets or even 50 tickets for $2.00 a piece. The train ride is a long one with a stop to get popcorn and drinks. They don't charge for the picnic tables, so the main expense is the train tickets and other party supplies. I highly recommend this, you do need to reserve your table, so do that at least by March. It worked out great for us, our Son loved it and the kids had a ball riding the train.
Wow, we loved the train inside Grapevine Mills Mall. Wish it hadn't of closed down!
Another idea is the Fort Worth Zoo, it has a train there and you could do a party there, however it will be more expensive.
The TRE is another option and going to Dallas and just staying on the train. Not sure if they would let you decorate the train or not.
The Grapevine Vintage Railroad is another option, then you would have to have the cake/presents somewhere else, at a restaurant or at home.
For our son's 4th birthday, we rode the TRE (from FW to Dallas and back) as his party. We invited about 12 kids and their families and paid for all the tickets - REALLY cheap since the youngest kids ride for free and the parent tickets weren't very expensive. We caught the train (had everyone meet there) at the first Fort Worth stop and we hopped on and were able to basically take over the top level of a double-decker car. We played some games on the way over and did cake on the trip over and presents on the way back. It was the GREATEST party and all of the families had a blast! We didn't even change trains in Dallas at Union Station - though a few of us got out and looked at the train some and the kids looked at the engine and stuff. It was so much FUN! On the way back, we actually got some strangers in the car with us, but they were fun because we made them play the games with us! It was one of our best parties ever!
