Hi Moms! I Need advice for my soon to be eight year old girl. I need some ideas for a birthday party, she is not sure what she wants to do??? So, I told her she could invite five friends but I need really cool/fun ideas on what we can do. Her birthday is at the end of the year but we will have a party before the holiday break-this way we can make sure her friends are able to make it.

Also, if anyone out there has any ideas on planning an semi- inexpensive trip to Disneyland for about three days, that would would be helpful too! (for a family of four)

Thanks to all you wonderful moms for your help!!

What can I do next?

Sassy parties are big. Do the dress up tea theme with the mani pedi. If you don't have a girly girl you could also do a tie die Tshirt party. Just get the puffy paints and add water super easy keeps them entertained. If you want to really go out they could make friendship bracelets to take home too. I suppose you could from 80's grateful dead to now 2000 earth day themed :)

bieng a december baby I like your idea. do a dress up party or a tea party for the "big girls" for cake and koolaid. or have alot of diffrent clothes they would enjoy and make them switch clothes use your clothes or something they can get on and off easily of course your shoes and daddys shoes or brothers shoes or whatever. leave their clothes on underneath though. see who can dress the silliest. have fake jewlery they can take home. buy halloween hats right after halloween they would be cheaper and sillier. use your imagination. cant help you with disneyland though.

I would take them to an antique shop and have a tea party in their tea room (many host these including the dress up clothes for kids).
Color me Mine parties can be fun
when I was 8 we had my FIRST official SLUBMER PARTY, not just one friend but there were like 7 or 8 of us w/ pizza and cake and a few movies and we all slept in the living room in sleeping bags (ohh rembembering that gets me excited!!)

DO you have a Color Me Mine near your house? They are a chain of ceramic painting studios here in the Salt Lake valley, and my daughter has had birthday parties there twice. She and her friends love going there. They also rent out kits for painting ceramics at home, which you can then take back to them to get fired. You can google them to find locations, rates, etc.

Depending on when you are coming, you can get Disneyland tickets at Costco for a better price than at the park itself. An adult 4-day pass is $199 and includes a $50 gift card to be used within the park. Buying directly at Disneyland or through their website, you'd pay $201 for the ticket and not get the gift card. THERE ARE BLACKOUT DATES so make sure you find out about those before planning to buy them. I assume they are only sold at local Costco's, but you can probably call and find out. I know there are a couple of weeks blacked out around xmas. Many of the hotels around D-land have shuttles to the park, so you can stay a bit farther away and maybe save a little money that way too.

I like the tea party idea that the other moms mentioned.

You could have a movie party & take them all to a movie at the theatre if there's a fun kids movie coming out at that time.

Boondock's is fun for a b-day party & they're old enough to not have to worry about where they are every second.

California Pizza Kitchen does b-day parties where they take the kids behind the scene into the kitchen and let them make their own personal pizzas. FUN!

My daughter went to a cute cooking party where they received litte aprons the mom had made and they made their own pizzas with toppings and then they decorated mini cakes to take home. Very cute. Another friend near Christmas had graham cracker houses already made up and the girls got to decorate their own house with candy and frosting to take home. Not too expensive yet cute.
You could also do a nice candlelight dinner on china for her and her friends and then let them soak their feet in little foot baths with lotions etc. and give them all a pair of socks from the dollar store or Target. There are tons of ideas on Family fun.com too.
Disneyland... just buy tickets on their website but if you only want 1-3 days, look into the ones on ebay that sell them and then you return the ticket. We did it for a 1 day park hopper for one person for $55 I think and it worked great. Also, getawaytoday has great deals for packages with hotel and tix. If you want to stay within close walking distance, we have stayed at Del sol inn, Park Place inn, or Desert Inn and suites which are all right there across the street. Start checking out books from your library with tips etc. and if you are going during a busy time, buy ridemax which tells you when to go on what for minimal wait times. Totally worth the $15 for all the tips and the iteneraries we ran. Hope this helps.

Okay... this is a hard one. At my tenth birthday party we had a slumber party where we did a lot of cool things. I wish I could remember them all, but I do remember we had a game with balloons that had things you could do inside, and we had to sit on them to pop them and then read the paper and do whatever it said "Quack like a duck" "dance" etc.

It was a lot of fun. They were all silly things.

For a friend's 10th her mother had shirts made that said "____'s birthday party" and had all of our names on it, we played dress up and told spooky stories all night.

Those are all tenth birthday parties, so I don't know if they help, but those were all I could think of.

EDIT: Also consider games like musical chairs and give small prizes.

My 8 year old recently went to a party where they did "spa day". The mom had facial masks, pedicures, manicures, etc. that they did for the girls. She then sent them home with a little basket that had lotion, nail polish a washcloth and maybe some other stuff that I can't remember. I'm not a big fan of party bags that the party giver hands out the the party attendees, but there were only about 4 girls, so it seemed fun. Plus, it wasn't a bag full of cheap toys and candy.
We have done slumber parties where the girls decorated their own pillow cases. Or, just having girls over and dressing up to "rock out" with all sorts of funky and cool clothes/accessories. You could go to Goodwill to find a bunch of stuff to dress up in that's cheap.
If you have a wii or game station, you could do a "So You Think You Can Dance" party. My daughter and her friends love that game. Same principle applies....dress up and rock out.
I keep trying to get my daughter to agree to invite only a couple friends to go do a Color My World party. (It was mentioned in another response. You pick out ceramic statues, plates, mugs, etc. and the girls paint them. They will fire it for you and you pick it up in a day or two) That sounds like fun to me!! :)
We have done skating parties (both roller and ice-with my sons and daughter) and movie parties. You can take a group of kids to a fun movie that comes out around the time of the party, but it does get pricey if you are taking 11 kids to a 3D!!! (lesson learned on that one..LOL!)
These are just some of the parties we've had over the years. Good luck and have fun!!
