Birthday Gifts - Rochester,NY

It is my husbands birthday in a few days. He is really difficult to buy for because he usually just gets what he wants and the things he wants are mostly tools and electronics...which I am not buying him. :) He usually buys me the most amazing and thoughtful birthday gifts and I have been trying to do the same for him. I have been known in the past to buy him either cheesy, or utilitarian type gifts. I have a couple of ideas...but my question is: What do you ladies give your husband for his birthday?

****Beer is on the list. I was thinking of going to Beers of the World and getting some varieties I know he likes, but doesn't get very often. ***

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the suggestions ladies. Glad to know that I am not the only one with a difficult to buy for husband. I ended up buying some beers that He likes, but are a bit pricey so he doesn't buy them often. A gift card to the golf course he frequents a couple of times a year (and not at all yet this year) and a pair of crocs. He had mentioned that he wanted a pair, but he is REALLY hard to buy shoes for...so this gift wasn't the best, but not the worst either.
I liked the idea of the hotel room, but we are not like that. It would just end up being cheesy :) But I have wanted to get a him a three-some sometime for his b-day...I think he would like that :)

I've come to terms with the fact that my husband does not like suprises. So I might as well let him pick out his gift for the rest of his life. I am considering giving him child # three for his 40th birthday and that will likely be his one and only suprise out of me.

Get him the key to a hotel room for the night. plan it all ,,babysitter so you can take him to dinner but she knows its for over night. Go in early and put wine or champagne in the room with some nice snacks you like. A change of clothes and anything else you need to spend the night. (tooth brushes, birthcontrol, medications)Then at dinner, give him a small nicely wrapped gift box with the key. I did this once for our anniversary and it was a big hit. .... for both of us.

My husband is a beer drinker, he likes exotic beers so for Christmas we got him Beers from Around the World from World Market. They also had a Winter Beer collection and this summer they had a Summer Brews collection.

We have also gotten him ties with Superman and other fun themes.

Superman car decals and seat covers

Father's Day we bought him (or he bought himself) a boat, so we got the softside garage from Tractor Supply Co so he can store his new toy. $380, expensive

Guitar books from Barnes and Noble, plus picks and a kapo

Guitar lessons from the local guitar shop he likes.

My uncle collected walking sticks, now my son does

My dad a "calculus is fun" tshirt, any math related or trivia book

Urghh. Men are so hard to buy for! My husband likes tools, but is very picky, so I buy him gift cards from hardware stores. Also books are always appreciated by him. Beer of course. Men could always use some new clothes. An Ipad if you don't already have one, dvds are good, experiences - such as white water rafting, or a weekend away. I tried to buy a parachute jump for my dh once, but my sneaky testing the waters on this one proved that it would have been the worst present I could ever get him.

we always try to do fun stuff, but my husband really LOVES tools, so we do that a lot. And we really just buy what we want, when we want, so lots of times, we will include something that we have bought as "the gift". I know it is not actually a thought provoking gift idea, but that's the way we do it a lot. My sister gets her hubby a lot of the beer stuff as Margie mentioned, and he loves it.

I feel ya.

My husband is very picky about a wide range of things: books (he won't read just ANYthing, lately he's reading theology and the works the Pope (Benedict) has released) music (very eclectic, very opinionated and he always can get it cheaper somewhere than I know about) clothes (picky--he has 4 shirts from the same maker. 2 he loves and 2 he will not wear at all. I cannot tell any difference in them).

He also feels hurt if I don't get him something I "know he wants", but yet he'll get hurt if I don't come up with something I know he'll like on my own, because: "I'm EASY to buy for!" and I "never surprise him".....

AUGHHH! I HATE shopping for him, ONLY because I never seem to be able to get it right. :(

I once gave my husband BBQ grill, he was happy, grilling expert since..:-), it came along with nice book of grilling recipes...but you might already have one. He also appreciate if I buy him his favorite after shave (Pleasures for Men of Estee Lauder) because he DOES NOT like shopping. ha ha An absolute hit was driving in Formule 3 on a real circuit !!! but I do not know if there is circuit near you and they do such a stuff.

I love the idea of the hotel room key--I'm going to try that one! Especially since there's a hotel in our town that was recently renovated, and I've always thought I'd love to check it out. I've done beers of the world, guitar lessons, golf lessons, etc. All went over well. I'm much more into experiences these days, because we have so much stuff in our house! Once I got him a flying lesson from our tiny local airport--it wasn't too expensive for the first lesson. I didn't tell him where we were going, just told him how to dress, and then we got in the car and I drove. That one was lots of fun and memorable. Another idea is to plan a guys' outing for him--get a few of his friends to agree on a date/place/time..can be dinner, drinks, golfing, bowling, whatever. Arrange it all and send him with some cash.

I like the dinner & hotel key idea suggested below. You could still get him some of the BOTW varieties & put them in a bucket or basket & put them in the hotel room before you & hubby go out. Having a pool or hot tub would be nice to relax after dinner, & before retiring to the room for the night.
