Hi -- Happy Thanksgiving!
My great-niece turns 13 next week and she never liked dolls, etc, when she was little. She LOVES to ride horses & even goes hunting with her dad.

What do you ladies suggest would be a good gift for birthday and/or Christmas? Her actual birthday is Dec. 2nd. Last year I got her a gift card to Target but would like to do something different -- so other gift card suggestions are welcome, too!
Thanks!

What can I do next?

I would try to get her something that has to do with horses and riding like boots or a hat or gloves. Maybe some lessons in riding (English/Western) and taking care horses that she does not know. If there is a horseshow in town a ticket to it.

The itunes are good.

The other S.

If she has an Ipod, get her an Itunes giftcard. My teen also enjoys Amazon gift cards.

Ditto that itunes card. What about electronics?? Something for her room? Some sort of horse "experience"...i.e.dude ranch etc. Check out the place she rides at and see if there is something you could work out, pay in advance for her to have some riding experience with friends etc??

Hmm... does she love science, engineering or history? Lots of good building, creating and reading opportunities.

Oh my, if I didn't know any better, I'd swear you were talking about my oldest daughter (whose birthday is Dec. 2nd!) I agree with the iTunes gift card. You could also do a Barnes & Noble gift card if she likes to read.

She likes to ride horses. I'm not sure where she lives, but there are a lot of place around Austin and San Antonio that offer trail rides and such. You could look into something like that.

I ditto the idea for an event - concert tickets, a pass to the science center? Or pool your resources w/ other family members and do a weekend get-away to a working farm?

Does she like to do art? Does she like music? Does she have an iPod or other MP3 player? Is there an exhibit or show she might want to see?

Converse All-Star shoes.

Anything cammoflauge - purse, pants, shirt, nailpolish - (speaking of nailpolish --- They make that 'crackle' look nailpolish now. OPI makes it, plus others. You could get her non-girly colors like Silver and Torquoise?)

Does she have a digital camera? - If so - find out if it takes batteries. And if yes - get her a huge 24 pack of AA batteries. (my camera has a battery charger, does not take AAs). All kids need batteries and all parents seem to dread buying them, right?

I was looking at amazon.com for items for my neice for Xmas. Found "Wreck This Journal" and read reviews. Sounds like fun. Not quite for my neice, but perhaps yes for yours. Each page of the journal you are instructed to do something "Draw circles" or "paint with coffee." You're supposed to do something to it each day, as instructed. I sounds fun, but depends on the kid and depends on if the parent will be game with their child kind of destroying a book. Check it out.

Hi there,
I was/have been a horse crazy girl from when I was a kid. You might want to ask her parents if there is any tack she wants or needs for her horse. To me, the best gifts have always been something new for my horse. Or maybe she is wanting something for hunting, I enjoyed shooting for a while, but never got a chance to hunt. If you want to go the gift card route again, maybe a tack store, or Bass Pro Shop, or Tractor Supply, a place that has a variety of things that she would be interested in.

Good luck
K.
