Birthday Baking Party

I've gotten such great suggestions in the past from you moms - so I thought I'd go for it again. I am planning a birthday party for my daughter (turning 7). We are planning to invite 6 girls and do a baking party. We live abroad, so we don't have access to the good old convenience items in the US (no prepared pizza dough/crust, cookie dough, pie crust, etc.). AND I'm actually not much of a baker! But my daughter loves it, so hence the theme.

I would love any ideas regarding simple recipes I can prepare ahead to let the girls finish up (like I make pizza crust before-hand and then let each girl prepare her own mini pizza, or cookies for them to decorate, etc.). I also have an infant and a preschooler - so I'd love the most simple and quick of recipes. Also ideas for games, decorations, etc. that tie in with the theme would be great! Thanks as always :o)

Hello! I did this for my 5yo and it turned out great! I was told our party was better than the ones at the structured places.

You already got the idea of the muffins and the cupcakes. I also purchased paper chef hats. I found them online for pretty cheap and then had the kids decorate their hats when they arrived. Since I saved a bunch by doing the party at our home I splurged and got the kids aprons too. Not needed, though. I found the kids liked the hats more. Have fun!

For quick dinners we make pizza's on biscuit dough! Not sure if they sell that. We just open the can, smoosh the biscuits down and make the pizza! Fun, easy, and quick.

Otherwise, as long as you prepare the doughs ahead of time - you should be golden!

We've also done taco bars for parties and that ALWAYS goes over well.

I would make some sugar cookie dough and some pizza dough ahead of time. Get some sprinkles and frostings and pizza toppings. And let them go to town.

Not knowing where you are, my kids have used "english muffins" (Not really English.... use those as the base for mini-pizzas.... There may be something similar where you are.

Make some cupcakes ahead, and have the frostings and other things to top them off with...... including things like marshmallows (make snowmen with them).

You can use Graham Crackers (if available) to make mini-gingerbread houses....

Sound like a perfect girl party. How about aprons for while they are cooking. They can decorate them with fabric crayons and cut outs of felt. A take home gift for the girls. Or decorate wooden spoons to take home to mom. cooking and crafting. Have fun! can I come??

It would help to know where you are abroad...there are a lot of mom's on here with overseas experience.

When I lived in Belgium and Germany - we had access on the economy to things like that - but it was expensive! :) I would buy some English muffins, spaghetti sauce and cheese - maybe some pepperoni for the kids who like it and make pizzas on the English muffins.

If the kids were older I would have a smell the spice game but at the ages of 5 through 7 - they won't really know about spices! LOL!!!

I wouldn't decorate - the kids will notice for about 5 seconds and then press on to the party!

for dessert? have the cookie dough ready to go - most likely a sugar cookie dough with cut-outs ready and let the girls roll it out and press their own cookies.

I hope you have fun!!!
