I have Mirena and love it. When it was put in, I had short term, light bleeding and zero cramping. After it was put in I did not even know it was there. I recommend it.

Personally, I love my Mirena. Got it last November after the birth of my second. The bleeding and cramps stunk for the first 4 weeks or so, but then tapered off and I haven't had a real period since. I love not having to think about taking a pill full of estrogen or figuring out whether I'm ovulating so I shouldn't be doin' anything for the next couple days. Keep in mind, Mirena is progesterone only, no estrogen, and delivered locally rather than through your blood stream to every part of your body.

I have it, it is ok! It is Mirena! LOL! That is a tough one! I sitll get my period :(
I had bleeding at beginning but now just normal!
I have heard bad stories but I am fine. My only issue is I want another and hubby doesn't. How do I take it out, to get preggy? He will know. Just kidding! I do want another though. Damn Mirena!

Anything that adds chemicals and synthetic hormones to your body, or anything that is implanted in your body, is going to disrupt your body's natural rhythms and could cause problems.

The most effective birth control, when used correctly, is natural family planning (not the rhythm method) or NFP. The best book for this, in my opinion is Taking Charge Of Your Fertility.

I have heard some real horror stories about Mirena, but I have also heard them about all forms of birth control...

I had huge issues with the mirena and wish I would have never tried it. But that is just me, I heard from so many friends how great it was, I guess I happened to be the one who it didn't agree with. So keep that in mind. There are some people which it doesn't work well for.

I really think it depends on the person, kind of like how different brands of the pill can affect people really differently. But one thing about the Mirena - there is a risk of the device actually rupturing the wall of the uterus or embedding into the uterine wall. This is supposed to be extremely rare, but my OB was actually doing a procedure to remove one that ruptured a woman's uterine wall the last time I was in the office. That was enough to convince me to just use the pill. :) And from what I've heard in terms of some people experiencing weight gain, bleeding and mood swings with the Mirena, it doesn't sound any better than the pills in terms of those issues.

I know a lot of people who loved it. I only had mine for six weeks before having it removed. The doc said to give it three months, in regard to the cramping and bleeding. I did have cramping and bleeding, but I also started having anxiety attacks. I wasn't willing to wait to see if they would stop as the hormones leveled out so I had it removed.

I heard it decreases one's sex drive. Within days of getting it implanted four out of four friends lost their sex drive. 3 evenutually got it removed and their sex drive came back (within 6-8 weeks).

Mirena can be for some people but it does have side affects. If you are sensitive to hormone changes then it can be disasterous. Some people love it and are fine but others like me have suffered from anything from headaches constantly to bleeding to much to mood swings. If you are prone to ovarian cysts it can make them worse.

When I had it put in about 6-8 weeks after my daughter was born I had mild cramps and a very light period then the period quit for a whole year. But it made my mood swings so bad everyone swore I had bipolar. I didn't want to have anything to do with my daughter and I was tired all the time along with not being able to loose weight. I had frequent headaches and it can cause lower back pain as well.

do your research and look up its side affects. I believe I found a lot of information on medications.com For me and several people I know we hated it. But it all depends on how your body reacts to hormones.

I have had mine for a little over a year now and I have had little to no problems. I didn't want to take the pill anymore (too many hormones, caused terrible mood swings) and I had been doing NFP (fertility awareness) but had trouble keeping up with it and ended up with my 2nd a little earlier than I planned. I have a little spotting off and on, don't really have a period. The cramps were not comfortable for the first few days but after it "settled in" I have only had a little bit of cramping now and then. It does have hormones in it, but they are delivered locally instead of systemically (not running ALL through your body) and the other IUD that doesn't have hormones is made of copper (Paraguard) and my skin breaks out any time I wear jewelry with copper in it so putting something copper INSIDE me wasn't a good idea for me. You could look into the Paraguard too if you'd rather not have the hormones. It lasts longer than the Mirena as well (Mirena is 5 years, Paraguard is 10).

I had the Paragard, non-hormonal IUD and loved it. My finace is sterlized so I had it removed. I did spot and cramp a bit more but I completely recommend it.
