Birth Control Question - Powell,OH

I love using the VCF (Vaginal Contraceptive Film). It is a spermicide that is super-easy to use, but I'm wondering if I can rely on it exclusivley. We have been pretty fertile so far (pregnant the first try, twice). Another pregnancy would not be terrible, but we'd like to wait a little longer. What have you heard about the VCF? Have you known anyone who got pregnant while using it? We just hate the condoms SO much! Please tell me anything you've heard about the VCF or your own experiences with it. Thanks.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for your answers. I just went to the gynecologist and she said that the risky timing and only using a spermicide, I was probably about 60% safe. She fitted me for a diaphragm. It is easier to put in and take out than I thought it would be. We haven't used it yet- the pharmacy had to order it and and the spermicide gel to use with it. She also told me I could take the Depo Provera shot while nursing, which I didn't know. I declined that method because I really want to avoid the hormonal methods. So far, I'm happy with my decision to go with the diaphragm. Thanks, again, for your answers.

WE used it after two of my children until I stopped breastfeeding and could go on the pill. NO children. Then, when I went off the pill, we used it about a year, and we now have a 4th child born 9 years after his next sibling. I do think you have to be really careful with inserting it. I think that is what happened to us, without relaizing it, it fell out before it had a chance to dissolve. (I found it in the sheets later in the week.) Right after I found out I was pregnant, I told someone at work that is what we used. She was using the same product, and thought she might need to change. Before she could change, she found out she was pregnant.
That is our experience with it. I found out about it from a friend who also used it after childbirth, and didn't have any unplanned babies. I would say if you don't care if you get preggers, us it, but if you don't want another baby, then use the condoms with the VCF, or find another method.

I don't have any personal experience with it, but just a thought. I don't think I would trust it alone. Perhaps you should look at a combo method such as a diaphragm/VCF method. It just seems that it would be testing fate a little too much if you are that fertile. I am also a "Fertile Myrtle" so personally, I wouldn't trust it alone.

I used that too and a dr told me I might as well drink a glass of water and say 3 hail Mary's. I never got preggers on it but I guess I was lucky.

The box will tell you how effective it is when used correctly. I suggest getting the book "Taking Charge of your Fertility" and charting while using contraceptives like that.
