We've always had those ugly, annoying black birds in our neighborhood. They "tease" our dogs all the time, but never any more. But today we saw that the hair on our black lab was ruffled, and the birds were just sitting near the dog, and he was kinda cowering. He's not cut, and seems to be fine. But we don't want it to get to the point that we can't let our dogs out, especially with this great weather we're having. Our lab loves to be outside as much as possible. Has anyone heard of these birds attacking pets? And is there any way to prevent this, such as any type of bird control measures? Should I contact the city or animal control?
Try getting one of those big plastic fake owls (homedepot/lowes/wal-mart)and "display" it outside near where the dogs are maybe that will deter the birds....
I have heard of Blue Jays attacking animals for their fur. They use it to make their nests insulated. Maybe that is the case. Have you noticed a lot of nests in your backyard?

I was reminded about a story my dad tells about his childhood dog, who was bald-headed from the birds pecking him. I know this sounds cruel, but I'd have to get my hubby out there with a bb gun. I couldn't stand to have my dogs hurt. Also, there are some mockingbirds in my front yard tree that have actually dive-bombed me with my son in my arms while we were walking out to the car. Just something to think about. Good luck :)
i've noticed that the birds only enter the backyard to get my dog's food. So I'm now trying to limit feeding times so she eats up all her food at once or bring the dog inside to eat.
If I leave a lot of food outside on the patio... the birds come to steal it. And my poor elderly beagle doesn't care and just sits there.
Is there dog food sitting out on the patio or some other food source that's attracting the birds?
