Biking with a Child Trailer?

Hi Moms! I am mom to a 3 year old and as summer approaches, we are looking forward to the beach and other outdoor activities. One of our favorite outings is a mile walk to a nearby beach. There is a bike rental place nearby and I REALLY want to rent one with the child's trailer so we can ride the trail we normally walk. My hesitation is that I am not a terribly proficient bike rider. I learned maybe 10 years ago and haven't gone on a ride in about 5 years. So my question is, before I jump into renting a bike with a child trailer...are they harder to handle? More difficult to ride? My son has a helmet and I am more comfortable at the thought of him in a trailer while I ride rather than one of the mounted child's seats. Just looking for some advice from seasoned mommy-bikers Thanks in advance!

We just hooked up my bike to the trailer (it's a 1 seater) this past weekend. I took my 3 1/2 year old first, then my 1 1/2 year old next.

I had not been on my bike more than twice since my oldest was born (5 years ago) and it was VERY easy to manage. Just make sure you give yourself a little extra space to get going if you have to stop to cross the road or something, you need just a bit of a boost to get going again.

My kids love it! It's a great way to get some exercise... my husband is out with our 1 1/2 year old right now, we hope she'll fall asleep in the trailer so he put her in her jammies :)

Have fun.

My son is 15 months & we just bought a bike & trailer. I haven't ridden in 10 years either so I know your apprehension, but you will LOVE it! Just make sure to give yourself extra room on the sides. Especially when you turn. Sharp corners are a little tough. I also pack some toys or snacks in the trailer for my son so he is a happy camper. Have fun!

We bought one from Toy R Us. It is awesome!! If you fall over on the bike, the trailer stays standing. I also use a helmet on my little one. It is not hard at all to pull. You only have to watch your corners to make sure you take them too sharp.

I've never found them harder to handle. I LOVE biking with a kid's trailer! I was prepared the first time I used one for it to be harder to pull and possibly exhausting, but it never has been. I think you'll absolutely love it!
