The day he tried to climb out of the crib. Each child is different and your daughter may like her crib but at 15 months she should be a go for the big girl bed. Make sure to do the transition well before the baby comes because she may not like the new baby in her crib.

Both of my kids transitioned into their big beds at 16 months. We actually did it cold turkey with both. We did it early because we were expecting our second and now our third and didn't want there to be any issue with them thinking someone was "taking" their bed. My daughter now points to the crib in the nursery and says "baby" and puts her doll in there. Both of their beds had removable railings so they wouldn't fall out. My son never even attempted to get out of his bed (and he had been trying to get out of his crib). In fact, we had to finally tell him that he had to get out without yelling for us when he needing to go to the bathroom. My daughter did sometimes get out when she didn't want to go to bed, but she would eventually give up and get back in. I think she may have spent a couple of hours on the floor once or twice, but didn't seem phased by it.

We transitioned early. Our son was only 16 months old, but he climbed over/fell out of his crib and after talking to our doctor and our other friends with adventurous boys, we decided to just do it right away. We put a gate in his doorway and essentially made the entire room the crib... the transition took about a month or so, but then he was completely fine with it. I took him to ikea and let him pick out a bed, which he did, with a cool blue tent over the top. he still loves it...

We put our little guy into a toddler bed right at a year...we were moving and we (by WE i mean MY DARLING HUSBAND) broke the crib in the move. He did wonderfully!!! He loved his toddler bed and now at 22 months we have moved him into a full size bed. It took a few nights (about 2 weeks) of coaching him to sleep in his bed (I definately spoiled him by cuddling him to sleep before this), but it was not traumatizing at all for either of us. I transitioned from still letting him fall asleep in my arms, to letting him fall asleep with me sitting next to his bed, to waiting outside his door (this outside the door part is what took about two weeks).

I transitioned both of my children right around 15 months. My daughter transitioned because I was expecting my son a few months later and I didn't want her to feel like we were taking her crib for him. So we transitioned early. She did great. For about a week, she kept getting out of bed, but only because she could. My son hated his crib, he hates feeling confined to anything really, so we decided to do the same with him. He followed the same pattern as our daughter getting out for awhile, but also transitioned rather smoothly.
