Best Place to Purchase Bunk Beds?

I had bought my daughters bunk beds about 5 years ago from big lots... twin on top, full on the bottom... for $70.

Sadly, these are officially on their last leg.

I HAVE to get the girls a new bunk bed for Christmas.

Where's the best place to get these for cheap? Big lots is hit or miss, and I'm kind of freaking out :(

Have you ever bought furniture online?

What can I do next?

We did great on Craigslist! Just a warning- they go fast, so start at the most recent postings and contact the sellers quickly.

I got Genna a really nice set of furniture, for around 400 at Weekends only. Her set was solid wood not that veneer stuff that falls apart. I would imagine if the really good stuff is 400 there are some pretty good deals there.

The set we got Christine, which is a futon bunk, was over a thousand but we bought it from a Futon store. This was during my first marriage when I was "rich". I have seen something similar at Weekends Only for 200.

Ya know it sucks to be "rich" you pay too much for your stuff! :(

I would check Craigslist first (and bring someone with you to look). Is there a discount furniture store near you? There are some that sell discontinued items for a lot less than the regular store. You can also purchase on-line and have it shipped, some stores will offer free shipping to the nearest store.

Craigslist! We got our sons solid wood twin over twin 'T' style bunk beds with the desk on the end and drawers on the other end for $200! AND they were like brand new. You can find regular bunks for $50 on there and they are nice. Don't discount finding some used. Saves money and you can find great things.

IKEA. I got a metal bunk bed from IKEA for $80 4 years ago. It has actually been really sturdy- more so than ones you would get from Shopko or Walmart. It still has no scratches even. It is just twin on top, twin on bottom, though I know IKEA has the full on bottom ones as well. Check out their website if you do not have an IKEA near you. I am pretty sure ours was a clearance item, but even the full priced ones are not too pricey.

The other route I would go is classified ads.

Added: Yuck, the one online at IKEA.com is $299. My vote is to go into the store and see what they have on clearance!!! I know they have been much cheaper than that in the past.

Craigslist or ebay.

last year I sold my gf's old set - for $500 - and it was one of the nice ones - where the bottom bed pulled out - desk, etc...

We bought Greg's bunk bed - twin on top, futon full on the bottom at Wal-Mart - Bob did put more supports on it to handle Greg and Nick playing on it as well but it's still good. And that was $200...with mattresses - the futon style - we ended up upgrading the futon to a really nice one from Wal-mart of $99...and it's comfy and just moved mattresses from one set to the other...

Walmart & Craigslist.

I am planning to get my daughter a loft bed, and i picked one out that I liked. It was around 130 bucks.
Craigslist is good because they have good deals, and most of the things on there are in good shape.

I got a good one at Wal-mart a few months ago, nice brown wood and very sturdy -- my husband gets up on top to read with my 9yo son too

I'd probably look at Craigslist first.

You can get nice things off of Craigslist - nicer than you can afford new (at least that has been my experience). Since you will have to go into people's homes to look, take someone with you. Otherwise, don't count it out - you might find something you love for a great price!

My cousin has her eye on bunk beds at Sam's Club. She said they look very sturdy and come apart into two different beds if you decide to down the road

Can't remember the name of the place I bought these many years ago - but they are SOLID pine - very sturdy and heavy, but they weren't exactly cheap even then, but have held up very well! What is out there now is way to light-weight looking compared to this stuff!

(tried a quick search - nothing came up that looks similar, but if I get back to it later, will post a link if anything at all comes up)

IKEA has some really affordable bunk beds. I fully intend on buying one as soon as my youngest is out of his Spiderman stage!

I have bought furniture online. I haven't had any problems thus far. I usually read the reviews to see which companies are prone to delivering shoddy furniture with missing pieces. Good luck!
