I am a first time mom-to-be and I am new to the city. I am hoping for a normal delivery and need to find a hospital that pro-vaginal birth and pro breast-feeding.

What can I do next?

Echo Plano Presby. 2 of 3 born there. Great people and beautiful hospital. If you are looking for pediatrician would recommend Dr. Jeanette Smith whose practice is in the hospital. She is the greatest for listening (not rushing) and great with kids.

You really couldn't go wrong with either Medical Center of Plano (on 15th and Coit) or Presbyterian Hospital of Plano (Parker and the Tollway). Both have excellent NICU's (just in case) and both are very friendly (and supportive) to breastfeeders. Best wishes to you!

I had my 2nd son this year at Medical Center of Plano and really was taken well care of. Although I opted for a c-section this time, due to complications I had with my first pregnancy. They took very good care of me and baby and actually enjoyed my hospital stay. I have a friend or two who have delivered at Presby Plano as well and they had good experiences. My OBGYN just moved her office near Presby Plano a couple months ago, so I am sure she now has rights there. Her name is Dr. Jean Ferrara and I highly recommend her. I have been a patient of hers for over 6 years and her nurse Mary Ford is wonderful!

Methodist Richardson Regional Medical Center on 75 and Campbell!! Very friendly pro-breastfeeding nurses. The lactation consultants took alot of time with us and gave alot of care. This hospital is also pro vag birth but that also depends heavily on your doctor. My doctor was Dr. Downey and he is awesome, awesome very natural birth friendly. Good bedside manner, very knowledgable.
The other Dallas hospital that is pro-vag delivery, probreastfeeding is Baylor Dallas in downtown (I know this is not the area you were asking about but just wanted to throw it in there).

Just to give you an option in the other direction, I live in Richardson, and delivered at Medical City Dallas (just south of 635/75). They have the second best children's hospital in Dallas (behind Children's), so I felt safe in the event that anything happened. They had a lactation consultant come in the first time I breastfed and helped with options and questions even before I asked. I delivered vaginally, but with an epidural. I LOVE my OB - Dr Godat. He's at Medical City too. Oh, and their pre-birth classes even have a section on breast-feeding.

I delivered at Presbyterian Plano. I went all natural with no drugs and none of the nurses balked at my request. They also helped me try to breast feed within an hour of delivery. They also have numerous lactation consultants on staff, and a store that sells and rents breastpumps and nursing accesories like nursing bras, etc. I had a good experience there, and will probably have my second there.

Presby Plano is really nice. They seem to listen to what you want and respect that.

A downside with some of the bigger, busier hospitals (such as Presby Plano and Medical City Dallas) is that they do A LOT of deliveries and do not always have time for tons of one-on-one care. It all depends on what you want.

I had my first baby at Plano Presby and had a horrible experience with the nurses. They were very impersonal, rude and unfriendly (granted this was almost 14 yrs ago and things may have changed). I had my next three at a smaller, community hospital and LOVED the personal, friendly care I got there.

Richardson Methodist is OK if you have Dr. Charles Downey. He also works out of Plano Medical Center.

But the best hospital by far in Dallas as far as being 'baby friendly' is Baylor University Medical Center. You can even bring a birth pool there. I suggest the Midwife, Cecily at the Women's Health Alliance. They have doctor Norwood and a bunch of other doctors and 2 midwives. Cecily is my favorite. The hospital is important; but your choice of doctor/midwife is paramount.

If you are interested in a doula, please call me at ###-###-####. I also teach Bradley childbirth Classes. My website is www.wholeheartbirth.com.

I am off to Amarillo to help my daughter who is getting ready to give birth to baby number 3.

You may consider Allen Presby. It's only a few miles further on Central.
http://www.texashealth.org/body.cfm?id=786
From the website: In 2008, Texas Health Allen was designated a "Baby-Friendly Hospital" by the World Health Organization, recognizing its comprehensive approach to supporting breastfeeding of newborns. Texas Health Allen is the first hospital in Texas to receive this distinction and only the 68th in the nation.

Presby Plano :)

Although I myself delivered in Frisco at Baylor, and it was truly a WONDERFUL experience. Almost like a vacation! The food was incredible, the nursing staff was amazing, and they really helped me with breastfeeding and all my other first-time mom questions!

I love Medical Center of Plano.

We have recieved the best of care. This care goes beyond a delvery. My Hubby was almost killed n a car accident when daughter was 3 mth old and this hospital was top notch. I had my hysterectomy there in 2001. This is where we would have first choice if needed for a hospital.

The only "issue" with my delivery experience was that I wasn't a breast feeder and the breast feeder posse was tough. They pushed, and pushed hard. At last resort , my Hubby went out to purchase formula and bring it in to me. It took a HUGE effort for me to get formula for my healthy daughter.

I mean no offense.... BF was not "me". I have a beautful healthy soon to be 15 yr old who wants a belly piercing for her bday!

Watch out,, they grow up to fast!

I think you'll find most of the hospitals in the area to at least state clearly that they support breastfeeding. Natural birth, however, is another discussion! I delivered 2 weeks ago at THR Presby Allen as a transfer from the birth center, and had a natural unmedicated birth (against the advice of the doctor covering me). The nurse, however, was fabulous. I have heard that Baylor University Hospital (big Baylor in downtown) is the most natural friendly hospital, and that Medical City is not natural friendly. No matter where you chose to go, the best insurance you can give yourself towards having a natural birth is to hire an experienced and supportive doula. Ours made all the difference in achieving what we were looking for in regards to our baby's birth. Good luck!!

Absolutely LOVE Presby Plano! I had all 3 of my children there. First was in 1995. 2 of 3 ended up being stressful deliveries, but I didn't know it until after the fact because the staff was so wonderful and attentive, I didn't have any idea there were possible issues (#1 was 5 weeks preemie and being first and so young I didn't know that was a problem and #3 was about 30 seconds away from an emergency c-section). The nurses worked with me on breastfeeding as well as the fact that I don't take pain medicine before, during, or after (aside from the epidural, that is). Also, the food was actually really good!

Best of luck!
