Hi All Moms!!!! I am in need of your assistance (again) :-)
My son is currently attending Steppingstone School for the Gifted in Farmington Hills. He's in the Beginning Kindergarten program there. Unfortunately, next school year, I do not think we will be attending Steppingstone. I think we're going to follow the traditional public school path for now. As a resident of Farmington Hills, I do believe we are in a good public education dristict. Can any of you rate your best choice of the Farminton Hills school distict Elementary schools? I understand that School of Choice forms are due by April 15th (2008), so, ANY advice that you can give is greatly appreciated!!!! Thank you so much and have a wonderful day!

My kids go to Highmeadow Common Campus. Unfortunately they have already drawn the lottery for the next academic year. I believe it is the best Farmington Public school for all around gifted children. One of mine excelled in math and reading and was sometimes bored in K at our home school (even though our home school is a very good one). My other is not as advanced but through sibling preference is also now at HCC and the K program is terrific for kids of all levels. HCC attracts and is geared for children like mine and they are doing quite well there.

If you do school of choice this year, I don't know if you can still enter the HCC lottery in the future. You'd have to check on that. But that is what I would recommend. A lot depends on the teacher, too.

Best of luck to you.

Our daughter went to Steppingstone too for one year. Liked the school but not the price or the drive. We since moved to Brighton where they have a gifted program. That was important to us. My friends son goes to a Farmington school and I think he is gifted. She loves it so far (he's in first grade). They give him extra work and keep him challenged. I don't know the name of the school and it's too late to call but if you are interested, email me at ____@____.com.

Hi, I used to teach in Farmington Hills until I took the family leave act. It is a wonderful district. I taught at Wooddale it is on 13 mile between Farmington and Drake(in a subdivision). It is an excellent school with very caring teachers. There is a new principal this year that I have not met yet, but I can speak for the teachers and support staff. They do wonderful things with the students, they are caring and the parent community is excellent!
I hope this helps

Most school systems have programs for the advanced students. It's good to challenge their minds. At the same time, don't push it. Reason: kids can be plain mean. Make sure he's got a good set of friends first. Otherwise there's the chance that he'll be alienated by his peers. 'Smarty pants', 'geek', 'genius'. The name-calling recognizes his intellect, but because it makes the name caller 'lower' in intelligence--yes, they're jealous in a way---it is called with the intent to insult.
I would say encourage him to be helpful and use his abilities to help others around him.
Good luck!
