BenGay And Pregnant

I know I should probably call my doctor, but at 3:00 on a Friday, I'm not going to get a call back over a simple question, so I'm asking you. Can you use BenGay or another pain relief gel when pregnant? I pulled the muscle between my shoulder blades so every movement hurts.

What can I do next?

I goggled this and saw "yes" and "no" answers....aspirin-like ingredient.... I agree you can call a pharmacist and ask! And don't use excessively!

Call the pharmacy. Just remember anything you put on your skin, hair, or body does get in your bloodstream. I would use heat and or ice those should be safe.

Personally, I wouldn't put that stuff on my body at all. There are very toxic ingredients in it that soak into your skin. Many of these chemicals are known to cause cancer, reproductive harm, and many other things. I'd say hit up the heating pad! The less toxic products you put onto your biggest organ, the better, especially while pregnant! Those chemicals have been found in newborn cord blood :(

I am currently pregnant and received a list of over the counter medications that re considered generally safe in pregnancy if there is a STRONG need.

For aches and pains, it says: Tylenol, Heat or Cold applied locally

There is nothing else written for pains. However, it specifically mentions that all asprin or asprin related producs should be avoided especially in the third trimester. It says that occasional use is sometimes permitted but ONLY when specifically directed by a provider.

So, don't use Ben Gay. Try a hot or cold pack or Tylenol or a combination of the two. If you cannot get relief from that, call your provider and get advice.

Or call a nurse line and ask if you can't get your OB.

Call a local pharmacist.
Unless you have a bizarre underlying health condition, I would think that some type of topical muscle cream would be okay.
I was surprised at some of the things my doctor said were fine and I have perfectly healthy and intelligent kids.
If you can't get your doctor, ask your pharmacist.
They have given me great advice.

Best wishes.

Ask your OB to be safe. If you have a list of things you can or cannot use then go by the list. Be safe than sorry...

I don't see why not...if you know you won't get an answer from your OB? Call a pharmacist - they will let you know well...

Overall - as long as you are not applying it to your belly - you should be fine!

CONGRATS on the baby!!

I am not sure I would, you are not supposed to take aspirin while pregnant and bengay has an active ingredient similar to aspirin (a salicylate). I think I would stick to tylenol and heating pads. Maybe try one of those long lasting ThermaCare heating pads. Oh, and definitely get a few massages from the hubby :)
