Belly Flab

Ok moms! My son will be three next month. My daughter is 5. I am 5'4" tall and weigh 138lbs. If I work REALLY hard I know I could lose those last 10 lbs, but thats not really my issue. I hate the lose skin and flabbiness of my belly. My daughter (who still showers with me sometimes) always mushes it around. I tell her to stop, but she likes how mushy it is. GROSS!!! Any tips, thoughts, shared frustrations?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you mammas! What great advice! I think I will look for a DVD that targets the muscle seperation. I am planning a tummy tuck in 5 years, but I am hoping to help along the way. Thanks again!

It won't go away-sorry! I've had mine for 14yrs since I had my son. I'm 5'5 and weigh 115 and it is still there. Actually the more weight I've lost the looser it's become. I 'm getting a tummy tuck next spring. There are garmets that you can get to hide it under clothing-Target has the offbrand Spanx.

I'm not sure what you can do about loose skin, but there are a number of mom-belly-focused DVDs out there. Someone just gave me the name of a woman in particular who deals with mommy belly and diastisis recti (muscle separation). Her name is Lindsay Brin. You can order her DVD on netflix if you want to try her out before buying... I have ordered her but not tried it yet. I have the muscle separation and am working on a lot of core strengthening exercises to try to get my stomach semi-flat again. My loose skin will only be cured by a tummy tuck, though, I'm afraid. But I gave birth to seven pound twins (seven pounds each!) and measured 52" around so no wonder my tummy's a mess! Even if you don't have it, try googling Diastisis Recti and exercises and you will get a lot of good stomach exercises, because apparently crunches alone won't take the flab away.

As a personal trainer, I would recommend getting a balance ball for core exercises. Planks are also great. Not only will it help with flab, you will be doing yourself a favor as you grow older by keeping your core strong.
If you are interested in a great weight management program, let me know.
Good luck and God bless.

As you lose the weight your belly will look a little less flabby but - skin is pretty much going to stay the same.

I'd look into skin firming products or procedures. I'd definitely work out my belly area hardcore if I were you.

I'm about to have this same problem in the summer after my son is born. I figure, with a strict diet, some belly concentrated workouts and a product or two - I have a shot at having a close-to-flat tummy again.

We'll see! Good luck!

I had the same problem after my boys were born! I finally had a tummy tuck in 2009, 3 years after the birth of my son. It was the best thing I have ever done! I highly recommend it and the recovery was not bad, I just needed help for about a week and then I was up and moving (slowly) again. In my opinion, this is the only way to get rid of the loose skin after having a baby. It is worth it even if you have to save your money for awhile. Just be sure to talk to a lot of people who have had it done in your community to find the best plastic surgeon. Good luck!

No tips, but thought I would share that my daughter is eight, and I have a mushy tummy too! :) I figure I just need to lose about two inches of flab, not really any weight, but have a hard time making time to dedicate myself to a regular work out regime with everything else that goes on daily! :) Good luck!

Dear C Marie,
On suggestion id to watch How to look god naked with Gok. Not sure what channel where you are at. Any how After the birth of my 2 children I went to the gym with a gusto, biked two century rides (100 miles in a day) and my body fat was the lowest I've ever had it. Not there now but it was 15%. Anyway the simple fact is I went to see a plastic surgen and he said I was the perfect candidate for a tummy tuck. That skin will never shrink again. So either learn to love it or get rid of it. I couldn't beleive haow much more I could work my abs after having the surgery. I DO NOT MISS THAT EXTRA SKIN! Good luck :) S W.

I am way behind on this, but I just started using It Works Body Wraps. After using them,After using them, I decided to sell them because they worked so well. I lost 10 inches from my belly with just three wraps. I promise it’s not some weird scam, because I thought the same thing. It’s a detox wrap that helps shrink fat cells. Anyway, they work great and yes, I do sell them, but I haven’t had a customer who tried a pack not buy more :) check out my facebook page www.facebook.com/itworksnevada or my website, itworksnevada.myitworks.com. I promise you, you will love this product! I’ve had two c-sections myself and found it harder to lose after the second one!
