I need advice on how to get rid of huge black and yellow bees. We have sprayed, but doesn't seem to work. They are going in between metal roof and wooden frame work. Thought about getting some flypaper or something like it. I may have to call an exterminator. Need advice if anyone out there has some. Thanks, Katy mom

So What Happened?

Thanks to all the people that responded to my problem. I think I will call the city to see if they have some sort of help for me. I really don't want to kill them if I don't have to. Have a nice day! J.

A friend of mine had a terrible problem with bees. She used Advanced Pest Control and they were able to get rid of the bees.

Hi J.,
If you have tried all the normal sprays and nothing works- there is a product you can purchase at most nurserys or feed stores- it is highly toxic but it works- it is called "demon"- and you mix it in a sprayer - it this does not work you may have to consult a bee keeper
good luck and blessings

Sounds like you've got 'woodworker bees'. If they're big, fat & look just like bumblebees but flying around your home instead of your daisies then that's probably most likely what they are. I'd first go out & see if they're 'drilling' holes in your woodframe areas over your carport. I haven't heard if these kind have a stinger but you can always double ck & always use caution around any type of bee. We used to have these in a house we used to rent yrs ago. They didn't really bother us, just were an annoyance & of course destructive. If it were me, I'd research online to see what you might can do about it first but if you just don't wanna mess w/it yourself then, like others suggested, call a bee expert. Good luck!

sounds like you have a hive in your carport wall/ceiling . . . not hard to get rid of, but it needs to be professionally done to be safe.

Sorry - -that means an exterminator bill!

Good luck

My husband is a beekeeper who does extractions, which keep the bees alive. He charges very little. We live in Pasadena but he has done extractions all over the Houston area. I am sending you a personal message with his cell phone number. Please don't call an exterminator.

Sounds like carpenter bees. Call an exterminator and expect them to have to rip stuff off our carport.

We had them in an apartment. They were in the walls and roof. The landlord said the only thing that worked was to call an exterminator. They had had the same problem years before. The exterminator was only out for a little while and the bees were gone.

I recommend that you start by seeing if an exterminator can come out to give you a free estimate. This way they can first tell you whether these are really bees- or if they are some type of wasp. Are they just single bugs that build a separate nest each, or is it a whole bunch working together? Then you could decide whether to relocate them or have them killed. Personally, I would never try to spray a large nest of wasps or bees myself. I'm not allergic, but I've been stung many times and it's scary. If they are in a location that has any chance of being disturbed(like being hit by a ball or something) then get rid of them to protect your family.

You need to call a Bee Keeper. Depending on the type of bees you have, the problem could be a lot worse than what you can actually see. If you have honey bees, you could have not only a bee problem but a honey problem as well. If they are Africanized, you may be limited to what you can do to get rid of them. Leave this one to the Pro's.

Call the city and tell them they should be able to help at little or no expense to you.

I agree with Nicole, since they are flying around your house instead of your plants they are probably carpenter or woodworker bees. They drill holes in the wood around your house in the form of an L and lay 3 or 4 eggs in the holes. The young come back to lay their eggs in the same place so they come back every year and get worse if not treated. I learned from a pest control guy that you can be successful treating them if you spray the holes at dusk dark over several days. The carpenter bees return to the holes for the night. It may take several days to get them all but after that is complete you can caulk the holes and paint. They will come back every year but the number will be less and less if you continue to treat them. Fresh paint will also deter them.

Call the local extension agent (probably under State of Texas) and they will know lots of people who are beekeepers that will do this for free.
We live in South Texas and my husband comes to collect the hives for free so they won't be killed. He used to have a honey collection but has had to ditch that due to work demands.
Like all the other posts, bees are being killed in great numbers which affects our eco system.
