Bee/Wasp Spray

I'm dealing with a 4 year old who is absolutely petrified by bugs. I deffinitely need to spray our deck area to decrease the wasp/bee/bug population there. I would love some recommendations on what to use. The only sprays I've seen are the foaming 'kock the next out' type. I need a larger area coverage spray that is kid friendly. Any thoughts?

What can I do next?

Victor makes a poison free wasp and hornet killer. I tried to buy it locally a few years ago without success. I know you can buy it online. Just Google it.

No suggestion on the pesticide front... but for the "fear" front, we have a book called "Bee & Me." Its really cute and talks about how bees are so busy gathering pollen and working that they don't care about people. When my four year old starts freaking out, I try to remind her about that. It might help, and its a really cute book with the "animotion" pictures.

Hi, J.:

Call the Orkin man to come and spray for you.
Just a thought.

You probably need to find out what's attracting the bees and get rid of it... certain flowering plants and water will attract them. Then there's the meat bee's, they are really a pain, they always show up at dinner time if you are outside cooking or eating.

I like the bags that have a scent in them that attract yellowjackets and wasps. They fly in and get trapped and can't fly out. You'll want to hang it far enough away from your house that the bugs aren't flying to your house trying to find the bag. Then you just keep an eye on it, and every month or so (or sooner if it fills up), get a new one.

call an exterminstor. I would not mess with bees or wasps. I would say they are equipped to deal with these types of issues.

Make sure there isn't a nest near the deck (wasps like to build them in the underside of wood structures, especially in the corners). Then, I like the "natural" bug repellents, like citronella and lemongrass. They seem to work as well, and smell a whole lot better, plus are safer around kids and pets.
