I need advice on how to transision my son to a bed while traveling? He sleeps in his crib at home, but is to old and to big to use the pack&Play anymore. We've bought him a children's Air Bed with a 4 inch or so lip around it to help keep them from rolling off. Thanks

Check with the hotel to see if they have rooms with bunk beds... when we stayed at Disney World and just this past weekend at Great Wolf Lodge they have bunk beds with guard rails... my son loved it.
I wish I could help you. My last trip with my toddler was a nightmare and I'm afraid to go anywhere with him again. He only sleeps in his crib and he was up until after 2 a.m. crying when we went on a trip. This was with a pack-n-play. I hope someone has some good advice on this one because I am looking for some myself.
Our pack and play was the same width and length of the crib, so we used it as a crib while travelling, without the bassinette attachment. However, if your child usually goes to sleep without much issue, he should be fine with the air bed you bought for him. There really is no easy way to transition him, other than to just do it. Maybe you can try giving him a couple naps at home with it, to test it out. Then it won't be a shock to him.
I bought a portable crib about a month before our vacation and a couple of times a week up until the trip I put it up in my room and let my daughter sleep in it next to my bed. She thought it was a special treat to be able to sleep in my room. She thought of the portable crib as a reward.
When we went on vacation she was already comfortable being in the portable crib so it was not a big deal at all. She slept in that the whole vacation next to my bed.

This past summer I went traveling with my two and five year old so I had the same problem. I bought sleeping bags for both and my two yer old loved it. It gave him the same secure feeling as his crib. So, you might want to buy one a couple of weeks before the traveling and let him play with it to see if he likes it. Good luck!
If you are staying in a Hotel they have cribs available (just check it out really well prior to bedtime)
We always make up a little bed for our 4yr old on the floor and have since he was 2ish (either an air matress or a futon chair) Our current 2yr old gets cold easily so he ends up snuggled between us in bed or he wakes up every 2hrs because he's cold.
Try a portable crib for overnight stays or check with the hotel/motel you'll be staying at for one. It will cost you a bit more but might be worth it for your peace of mind. Some children can understand at his age more than they can communicate. Talk to him about the trip in advance so he will know what to expect it often helps a great deal if he understands that he will be sleeping in a new room on a new bed. Try having him sleep on the air mattress next to your bed for a few days before you go on your trip. This might help you and him by finding out what works best before you are on the road.
