I put my almost 2 1/2 year old to bed anywhere between 7:45 and 8:45. Depending on her mood and mine :-) Generally 8:15 is when we get around to it.

Hello, I have a 5 yr old and a 2 yr old. When I have to get up in the morning to take my 5 yr old to school, I put them both down around 7:30 or 8 pm. Otherwise, they normally fall asleep around 8:30,sometimes later. My 5 yr old doesnt nap during the day and my 2 yr old takes about an hour and a half nap. I dont know if thats normal though. Oh well, it really depends on the kids, I think.

My 2 year old goes to bed at 7:30 and my 4 & 5 year olds go to bed at 8:00 during school when we have to be on a schedule. On weekends and summer it just depends on the day...

my kids usually go to bed around 8, but it's not set in stone every night. My 15 month old goes to sleep a little earlier most nights, 7:30 or so. My 3.5 year old may be up until 9 on some nights. we're not too strict on it yet because neither are in school or daycare and seem to get a good nights sleep when they go to bed sleepy, not by force.

Hi Robyn,

I also have a 2 and 3yr old. 2 boys. But they are in bed lights out no questions asked at 7:30, but my 3y/o doesnt nap and my 2y/o has always been a good sleeper so bedtime has never been a problem for us. I have a lot of friends whos kids dont go down until 8:30 or 9 though. i have always wondered this question too.

My 2 1/2 year old goes to bed at 8:00. His seven year old brother goes to bed at 8:30. The little one is usually up in his bed talking or playing til past 9, though. And his big brother falls right to sleep. I don't get it. However, neither of them have any trouble getting up by 7AM, so I guess it's working.

Hi Robyn, I have a daughter about to be 4. I have put her down at 8:00 since she was 2. She still takes an hour nap in the afternoon as well. Good Luck.

i have a 4,6 and 8 year old and i keep the same bed time for all of them on school nights ~ 8 o'clock. :) we're a little more lenient on the weekends and during school breaks but 8 o'clock works for me and my household. especially when we all have to be out the door at 7:40 every morning to get my 6 year old to 8am kindergarten. my kids stopped napping before they were 2 so that might make a bit of a difference for you. good luck. :)

I don't know about "normal", but I have always put my children to bed between 7 and 7:30 each evening. They are now 4 and 7. Because it's the routine and "the time" they have never mounted any objections, and they typically sleep until 6:30 or 7:00 am so clearly they need the rest. By the way, on the occasions when they go to bed later (even lots later) they still awaken at the same time...

Do what works for you, but watch for total hours of sleep (night plus naps) so you don't end up with a chronically overtired child.

We used to put my 3 year old down at 8pm but then she wouldn't nap at preschool so now she goes down closer to 9pm.

I have a 2 and a 4 year old, neither of them nap...... My 2 year old goes down at 8 and my 4 year old goes down at 9. Ideally I would put them both down at 8 but they share a room also, so I have to wait till my 2 year old is a sleep so they don't play!

I guess our family isn't "normal". I have an almost 3 year old son. I work full time as does my husband and we don't get home until at least 6pm. If I were to put him down at 7:30 or 8:00 then I would only get to see him for an hour or two. Which just isn't okay in my book. My son goes to bed between 9:00 and 10:00. Usually closer to 9:00, but then again there are some days he doesn't go to bed until after 10:00. He wakes up at 7:45 am every morning and does't seem tired at all. He does however get a nap during the day. I think normal is what ever works for your family. If you're a stay at home mom then 7:30 might work for you because you do need your alone time at some point in the day.

First of all, I think "normal" is what works best for your family. As for me, I put my 3 1/2 year old to bed at 8:00pm. She does not nap any more during the day so I feel that this is her max. Now, she does not just fall asleep. She has a DVD player in her room and we put a movie on for her at 8:00. If nothing else she is resting until she falls asleep. We started this when the baby was born last July and it has worked well for us. She sleeps until baout 7:00 or 8:00 in the morning; I feel that she is getting enough sleep.
