Has anyone had any success with a bed-wetting alarm. I know someone had success with the Malem alarm, but it costs $100. I was hoping there was a cheaper alternative that worked. Thanks!

What can I do next?

My friend used one for her daughter at the age of 8. It worked like a charm. She was really impressed and said even though it was expensive, it was worth it in the cost of pull ups, ruined mattresses, and her daughters dignity. She will use it for her son in the next year or so, he's 7. I wouldn't suggest it for children under the age of 5. Without success it will only frustrate the child more. kids under 5 are often afraid to get up out of bed to go, or aren't able to really allow their minds to focus on trying to stay dry to avoid the "buzz".

We are currently using Star child alarm. It was recommended to us from our Pediatrician. It seems to work well - the key is to have a baby monitor in your room (again) and the other half with your child. So when the alarm goes off you need to wake up with them and get them up out of bed. Remember sleep is over-rated :) ha, ha - I hope that helps

I was a bed-wetter growing up and my parents bought the "Wee Alarm" from Sears. It was a pretty simple device: 2 metal sheets with holes and an absorbent pad in between wired to a noise maker. So whenever the absorbent pad got wet, the alarm would go off. I would not pay $100 for something like that.

I will say that it took awhile for it to work, largely because I was a very heavy sleeper. There were times that the alarm would actually wake my parents up before it would wake me up.

Dear K.,
I went on ebay and found one for $14.00 used but who cares? It works if you read the suggestions on how to use it on the manual. I have a daughter who still wets the bed at 8 yrs. old. We used the alarm for a few months and after about the first week, she stoppped wetting the bed. Later down the road next year) I noticed she started to wet the bed again at night and we used the alarm again and it worked right away. Maybe it is hereditary as to why my daughter wets the bed. I try to stop food and liquids hours before going to sleep, but nobody is perfect. I recommend this system as long as you are not shaming your child when they have an accident. Good luck to you and yours! Elaina L.
