I think that is one of the great things about breastfeeding. Can you imagine having the same taste of formula every single day? How boring.

My son would nurse until I was completely dry if I ate Chocolate, cherries or chicken. If I ate beans or chili he was surely to have gas and he did not like it when I ate brussel sprouts or beats. He would then refuse to eat. I ate spices and that didn't bother him a bit. He loves garlic chicken!

hello, yes your baby does taste a little of what youve had to eat. I recall reading this in my "What to expect when your expecting book" I religiously read. I breastfed for 6 mths myself. Also, your baby will grown used to your eating habits. Me being hispanic, I ate alot of spicy foods and salsa, or hot sauce. If anything the breastmilk will have a little twang to it. But not harmful........goog luck

Also, if you exercise, your breastmilk may taste bitter ater a workout due to the lactic acid buildup in your muscles.

Yes, your baby gets everything you put into your mouth. Just be careful with things like garlic, onions, and spicy things, as they could definitely irritate her little tummy.

YES! the stronger the taste to you, the more likely the baby will taste it as well. some babies have aversions to certain foods you eat b/c of this and might even go on a nursing strike if it tastes too bad! things like garlic, spicy foods, etc.

Maybe in some small way yes but not to the degree that she would be like mom had pizza lol ( Just stay away from really strong flavored things like garlic and spicie foods for the most part)...When breast feeding though becareful what medications you take because that can be passed.

Yes - which is yet another reason to make sure you eat your veggies. :) They have a stronger flavor, but baby is learning to love what she is exposed to through your breast milk.

F.,
Oddly enough, they do, just not specifically. What I mean is, that if you eat pizza one night and chinese the next, your breast milk with change in flavor, smell (slightly) and even sometimes texture. This is one of the issues I have heard with moving baby to food. In formula fed babies, it all tastes the same, so they are looking for variety. In Breast fed babies they are getting that, so they are not so keen on baby food... Have fun with your girl!! :)

yes it has about a 8 hour delay but yes and sometimes they refuse to eat if you have had something they don't like. (ie) garlic or brocoli or spicy foods. They may even have an allergy to dairy and when you eat it they will often have a hard time drinking your milk.

Yes, the definatly taste things. If you eat things like onion, garlic, spicy foods, ect. they your milk will taste different and they sometimes will refuse to eat it (they will sometimes even get heartburn or an upset tummy from things you have eaten). You can pump until you get the "affected" milk out and they should go back to nursing again. Caffine will also go through breast milk, so be careful with tea, coffee, soda, chocolate, etc. because it could make it hard for your baby to sleep.

Yes ma'am, it does!
The doctors say that you're not supposed to eat hot stuff like garlic or peppers, 'cause the baby won't like it but I ate all that anyway and my babies didn't care.
But whenever I ate fish, my son would cry and cry like he didn't like my milk. So I had my husband sample it and he said it tasted a little bit fishy.
So just try to pay attention to what your baby likes and doesn't like.

When I was pregnant I ate TexMex allllll the time, and then at the end, Chinese, HOT Chinese!! And I didnt change that while I was breastfeeding, and now my daughter is 9 months old and she eats pretty much whatever we have for dinner (unless its HOT HOT). Our pediatrician said its good that I exposed her to all of the spices and things in the womb and in my breastmilk. She did have aversions to broccoli (made her gassy--but shes fine now when she eats it..though she doesnt like the flower part..just the stalk) and cumin. Anytime I cooked something with cumin she would cry..at first we thought it was beef, and I had to cut beef out of my diet for a month to be sure..but no, it's cumin. Though she is fine with it now.

Your best bet is to do what YOU feel comfortable with. If you ate spicy things while pregnant, most likely you will be ok while breastfeeding.

If it makes you more comfortable though, keep a journal of what you eat every day, and then compare baby's reactions to your breastmilk to what you ate. :) That's what we had to do with me and thats how we came up with Cumin :)

GOOD LUCK!!!!! :)

(P.S. Our pediatrician suggested that we NOT cut out all flavored foods like garlic and spices out of our diet since that's one of the easiest less intense ways for baby to be exposed to seasonings without having to eat them herself. Also she suggested that we put seasonings like cinnamon, nutmeg and etc in our baby food to expose her to more tastes.)
