Beach Wear for Baby Boy!

I am going on vacation with my 3 yr. old daugther and 8 month old boy to PR. Wondering what I should have him in and take with me? Especially to the beach? I bought a UV hat with a wide brim, and I have a pair of swim trunks and some diaper swimmies. Do they need a short sleeve shirt too? White so it won't get so hot? Should I have him bare chested at all?

Onestepahead.com sells UV-protected T-shirts and also swim tops. They're very cute, and even safer than sun-screen since they don't wear off. That's what I would do.

Sensational beginnings and One Step Ahead.com both have UV outfits with the short or long sleeve breathable UV protection shirts and shorts (my girlfriend stationed in Hawaii swears by them as her hubby and first son are red heads!). Hats and sunglasses if your daughter will let you are a must. And it goes without saying, but don't forget the sunscreen. You can (from the above websites and sometimes even at walmart still in the middle of winter!) get the individual towelettes.

I also recommend at least a UV protective shirt. We took our son to St John USVI around that age and put him in a UV swim suit that had full legs and full arms and with a sun hat he didn't have any problems with burns. I would make sure you have 2 sun/swim outfits though. For obvious reasons and also since we found our son wasn't very comfortable once he got all wet in the ocean since he wasn't staying warm by moving around too much.

I also recommend bringing some kind of sun tent or shelter with you so you can set it up and put him in it for playing or eating so you don't have to worry about sun exposure on the baby while your daughter plays. We have a great tent we got off the internet that took up about as much space as a sleeping bag in our luggage but there are lots of them.

I would go with a UV shirt. They even make some that are long sleeve. If you don't want to order from One Step Ahead or Land's End, Babies R Us sells them in the store. We also got my daughter a pair of sunglasses that had a strap around her head so she couldn't take them off.

A Baby sized Rashguard. They'll double by keeping him cool. They are SUPPOSED to fit skintight (like a girl's swimsuit isn't supposed to flop around).

My husband is a redhead. When we're somewhere sunny (CA, HI, Egypt, Costa Rica, wherever) he wears a longsleeved rashguard 24/7. He'll put a regular shirt on on top when he needs to be more dressed. He's also very sensitive to heat. So he just pours water over himself and the rashguard acts as a natural air conditioner. One of the problems with too loose rashguards (worn like tshirts, instead of tight fitting like they're supposed to) is that they make one TOO cold. You *really* don't want that. But fit properly they're super comfy and you don't get overheated or hypothermic.

I wouldn't. They make cute rash-guard shirts & swimsuits that match. I like Land's End. AND lots of sunscreen. Have fun!
