hi moms...
Here's my dilemma... I'm looking to make my boys day a special one... he's turning FIVE, and its a very big deal to him...we're havng a party for him and his 'non-school' friends (30 of them) at a 'gym' place, however, his real bday falls on a thursday, so we wanted to do something special... but WHAT??? i was thinking of inviting the boys from his class and may be going bowling, but again, it would be thursday afternoon... we live in a condo, so to invite 7,8 five year olds over, can you say DISSASTER ??? there's really not enough space... no back yard... what should i do? i'll make cake, have family come over, order a pizza, but thats just so boring, i guess... i really want to make his day fun!!!! any suggestions??? oh, and BtW, i thought of the firehouse, to take him and his freinds there after school, but someone else is doing that the following weekend, i dont want to steel their thunder... lol... HELP ME!!!! i just want my kid to enjoy his day!!!!

What can I do next?

You are a lucky Mom, and he is a lucky boy; this is not really a dilemma at all. One party is enough for any five year old, and what to do on his actual birthday is not such a big deal. Send a treat to school, make his favorite meal for supper, get a cake, give him a presant, and talk about what fun his party is going to be. You dont have to, and probably shouldn't, invite every single person he knows, school included, to every party he ever has, it just insn't neccessary. You can have a big party one year, and a small one the next, and you don't even need a reason.

Special is really what happens every single day, especially if this is the only problem you have. He is going to be 5, save something for his graduation and wedding!

What about just spending the day with him doing what he wants to do as a family, then have a low key dinner with the close family, then you have the big party on the weekend.

If you're throwing a party for him with 30(!) of his friends, then I think a low-key family day on his actual birthday would be fine. You could rent a Wii and some age appropriate games, or just go bowling with your family, see a movie or rent one, and let him choose the dinner menu.

We do parties for our girls on the weekends closest to their birthdays, then on their actual birthdays they get to choose what we have for dinner, they open a couple of presents from just us.
