Battling Sister Siblings

Hey All,

Well, I have two daughters, one who is ADD and seven, and the other who is not ADD and four years of age. The four-year old is a MASTER at pushing my seven-year old's buttons. Most carrides are yelling festivals with the seven year old screaming at the four year old, and the four-year old continually pushing her big sister's buttons. When they are not screaming at each other, they are great friends together.

Summer is coming up, and like all Summers past, I struggle with finding enough things to keep my daughters busy and occupied, without just hanging out in front of a television or at home.

Does anyone have any ideas for me?

Thanks,

E. A. Genge

So What Happened?

First off, a big MMMMMWWWWWAHHHH for each and every one of your responses. The Princess Party themes might really be a lot of fun with them. We have a swimming pool at our subdivision, so that is definitely available. My older daughter does Karate several times a week, so she's set. The younger one, however, needs something fun to do also. Thank goodness there is a Gymboree right next to the Karate studio.

Anyhow, thanks all, for your responses!

Tea parties, playing at the park, coloring with chalk, watercolor, building forts or princess castles, running through sprinkler or wading pool, making creative art projects, having playdates with friends, going swimming etc. Good luck!

Can you set up a reward system for each day that they both do not fight, they get a prize or something at the end of the day? Money towards something special or ice cream on the weekend? It may help them stop fighting if they have a goal....

This makes me think of me and my sister!

Sisters are brats, honestly. They are going to push each others buttons most of the time. Maybe you can sit them down, together or one at a time, and talk to them. Maybe talk to the younger one about pushing the older one around and talk to the older one on how to handle a younger sister. Make them both feel important, but let them know if they start to fight they have to sit in corners by themselves for 15 minutes or something. They are old enough to know right from wrong and that things have consequences.

What you can do- have a princess party, let them do yours and each others makeup, get their nails done... Ask them and see what they would like to do.

Good luck... Girls are scary! =)

Is your 7YO old enough for the day camps in your area? I think it would be good for her to have some space for a least part of the day from her sister.

E.,
I have a 7 yr old with ADHD and a 3 yr old (almost 4 yr old-both girls) with EXACTLY the same problem as your 2 girls. I am SOOO tired of the fighting, I could rip my hair out. When there is not fighting they are the best of friends as well. My 3 yr old is super smart as it sounds like your younger one is too. I am really stressed about summer too, and have no ideas as to what to do with them. We are in Cumming, GA and if you come up with any great inexpensive ideas locally could you please share them with me???

Thanks,
J. Evans
