Bathtub Rings

WHAT DO I USE TO REMOVE BATHTUB RINGS? I've tried Comet, Magic Eraser, PineSol, Spic & Span, Kaboom, Easy Off Oven Cleaner, Clorox Bthroom Cleaner, LA's totally awesome Oxygen Power All Purpose Spot Remover, LA's totally awesome Rust, Lime and Calcium Remover and none of these woked.. I did try Gillette shaving Cream which was the only product that removed most of the ring but had to use some serious elbow grease and just got plain tired of scrubbing... There is still a partial ring that will not come out. Any other suggestions?

What can I do next?

Good luck. You may end up having the tub redone and then clean it
every time you use it, which is a pain.....or just take showers..

A friend of mine that used to clean houses for a living told me to fill the tub with hot water and add the correct bleach ratio to water in the tub and leave it to sit for a few hours. I really would not suggest this though if the bathroom that you are attempting to clean doesnt have a window because even the fumes of bleach can be harmful

Good luck

Have you thought about what causes the rings in the first place? I found out years ago the shampoos and body washes were the culprits! They clean by corrosion! I found a line of products that I love and haven't had a bathtub ring in years (or scum on the shower.) I would be happy to get you information on it.

hmm sounds like a huge pain in the butt. Ive used sudsy amonia to remove stubborn stains (like sweat, etc) from white clothes with great success... might be worthh a try.
I also use a fluffy/ scrubbie (the ones we use to wash, but an old one) and shampoo, bar soap, w/e I normally wash with, and I scrub the tub every time I use it so there isnt buildup. Avon bubblebath is supposed to be good too, makes me wonder whats in it LOL
Maybe you need to get it reglazed?

How about Bon Ami? It's a little challenging to find but is the only thing that has really worked for us.

Good Luck!

Elbow grease + any of those products should remove the ring. If NOT, it means that the sealant on your tub has degraded and the stain is "permanent" because it's stained your porcelain or your plastic, and nothing short of a light treatment (like bleaching teeth) will work. That costs more than a new tub.

If you have a porcelain over metal tub you can get it reglazed. If it's plastic, you need a whole new tub.

If you *haven't*, however...

Get the tub wet. Shake on comet and use a sponge to spread it around. Let it sit for a few hours. Use a scrubbie (not a sponge or towel, but a plastic green scrubbie) + elbow grease. Allowing the comet to sit (it contains bleach) will allow it to bleach out stains / dissolve grease that coats the stains... and then it should scrub off. If that doesn't work, it's permanent.

You could try Coke? I've heard it works well for things like this.

I'd try a dishwashing liquid, betting the bathtub rings are greasy/oily.

I use the walmart brand of scrubbing bubbles. it is in a giant can with a yellow cap and it is called foaming bathroom cleaner. it is $1.84 and works so well to get rid of the Bathtub ring. I also use it in the kitchen to clean my stove and sink. I love this is stuff and it is so cheap.

Our shower used to be very slow to drain which then created horrible build up and after lots of scrubbing and lots of different products that only helped so much we had all but given up. The kids' bathroom drained better but always seemed to have a ring.

Then, I found out how nasty a lot of those products were and found something safer.

I used Tub & Tile and a lot of elbow grease on our shower, the drain issue has been fixed and now it is great. Build up gone! Same thing for the regular tub in the kids' bathroom.

I have cleaned houses for years and used lots of different cleaners. If you are having that much trouble with rings after trying all those cleaners, most of which should have done the job the first time, I suspect your tub is plastic. Plastic tubs are the worst thing ever to clean, but a plain old SOS pad works best. It won't scratch the plastic and takes the toughest rings out. Even the generic brand steel wool soap pads do the trick, no need to pay for brand name usless you feel so inclined.

Oh, and as a footnote, after you get the ring out of the tub, go get a can of regular old paste type car wax. Use a rag and wax the inside of your tub. Not the bottom, you don't want to fall in the tub. Start the wax just where the side and bottom of the tub meet, then wax the sides of the tub about half way up. This keeps the build up from sticking to the tub. Re-wax every month or so, depending on how many showers/baths a day are taken in that tub.

Have you tried Bleach Soft Scrub. You will still have to use some elbow grease, but I use the green and yellow scrub sponges and I use the green side, I have also bought just the green scrubs without the sponge on the other side. They do work well. I have just found that soft scrub works. Hope that helps. Can you tell me how to get rid of soap scum from tile? What has worked for you?
