I have a 2 year old who freaks out about getting her hair washed. most of it is because she is afraid it will get in her face and ears....ive tried putting a picture up high and having her look at it but as soon as i start pouring water on the back of her head she screams and looks down, therefore getting it in her face. i feel myself getting frustrated and so she gets upset and bathtime becomes this big crying, yelling, fit throwing experience and im tired of it...I NEED HELP

What can I do next?

I used to have the same problem with my daughter. I have to keep a dry towel by the bath tub so every time water does get in her face she grabs the towel and dries her face off with it. This seemed to be the only thing that worked for me. There are a lot of good suggestions so hopefully one will work for you. Good luck.

Hi,
I always lay Aaliyah down on her back so she is use to getting her hair wet. I let her have a cup and I let her pour it over her head, make it fun for her and just try not to scare her with the water. Have you tried getting in with her? Or letting her watch you shower? My 2yrs old loves to imitate me,even when I wish she wouldnt!
Good Luck!

Have you tried just giving her a washclothe to hold over her face. Also, if you have a big enough counter in the kitchen, washing her hair in the sink. Then she could just lean back and hopefully relax. If that won't work start just getting the bottom of her hair wet and going up slowly or you could just use the best stand by in the world, a water battle. You get soaked too, but it'll get her hair washed and will be fun.
Good luck.

My suggestion is you invest in a shower head sprayer. You have more control over where the water lands and before you do anything, explain to her that if she does what you want her to, the water won't get in her face but if she doesn't, the water will go on it. It may take alittle time and reminding but eventually she will understand what you are saying. Another suggestion is, let her see you take a bath and show her how to hold her head back by showing her on yourself. Kids seem to learn quicker when they see it rather than being told it. Always praise her for letting you do it and tell her what a big girl she is getting. My daughters loved hearing how big they were getting, even now at 9 and 7 years old, they love me telling them they are growing up.

hi B.. my name is M. and i am a hair dresser. If there is a sally beauty supply near you do there and ask for a shampoo funnel cap. They tie aroung the head and hair. we use them for older poeple and some handicap people that can't lean all the way into the shampoo bowl. they have a brim to keep the water out the face and the water just runs throught the funnel and into the sink/tub. hope this helps.

I think they also make a visor yu can wear in the tub to protect her face from getting wet. You might also try washing it in the sink with the spayer.

I saw this really cool thing once...can't remember exactly where though...check wal-mart maybe...it's a small bucket for washing hair...it has this rubber side on it...you put the rubbler side snug against her forhead and when you pour the water it doesn't go in her face. Another thing that my kids liked was at the dollar store, there was these swimming goggles with a mask around them...we call them the super hero swimming goggles. They only got to wear them in the tub. It kept the water out of their eyes and they got to be a super hero in the tub...and super hero's never cry when they get their hair washed.

See if she will lay down in the tub so you can wash her hair without having to pour water over her head. Another idea that worked short-term with my kids is to buy her a pair of goggles to keep the water out of her eyes. They thought it was kind of like being in the swimming pool. She'll eventually grow out of it, just make sure that you keep a towel or dry cloth handy for her to wipe her eyes if any water gets in them.

My little boy did that too. It took about 4 to 5 times, but eventually he got used to it and now loves having me poor the cup of water over his head. I started making a big deal that it was fun and rubbed my hand over his face to get the water out of his eyes, then took part of the towel and asked him if he wanted me to dry his face off, and I pat his face with the towel to dry it and make noises while I'm doing it. Also, he likes to look at the cup I use to wash his hair, of course he calls it a "puc," but ever since he found out what it was that was pooring the water, he didn't seem to mind. Let her inspect it and tell her what everything is and that it's getting her clean. It seems that when you explain things, they don't mind so much.
