Is he nervous about starting kindergarten maybe?
My son who is 5 has started having constant #2 accidents everyday and he never did it before until this past month and I just don't know what to do? Especially since he starts kindergarten in like a month.
Is he nervous about starting kindergarten maybe?
I would call the Pediatrician and mention it in an appt if he has to get school shots. It is likely nerves about starting kindergarten as other Mom's mentioned, but who knows. I teach young children and I suggest you not make going to K a big deal or talk about it a lot with him. I think many mom's make way too big of a deal about it, they get nervous and anxious themselves about their baby starting kindergaren ( especially if it their 1st child to go to kindgerten) Too much talk about it often causes separation anxiety for the child and I have seen it tends in makes their children nervous or afraid of kindergarten. Hope this helps. Good luck to him.
does he scratch his bottom alot. some kids get pin worms and have accidents. have you checked the area to see if it is red? Is his poop hard. it may hurt to come out so he holds it until he has an accident.
Stress/anxiety (about starting Kinder), or a medical based issue... such as constipation or Encopresis.
Kids, will sometimes "regress" when something is stressing them or causing anxiety/emotions in which they can't handle or cope with.
take him to the doctor somethings not right... have you asked him why hes doing it?
He could just be nervous about kindergarten, or just going through a learning spirt and is "too busy" to take the time out to poop. Give him an incentive, maybe a jellybean every time he goes to the potty, and be careful not to scold him, it could create more anxiety.
There are so many things that can be causing this. So many questions to ask yourself. Might he have a food allergy? Celiac? Diet low in roughage? Does he have tics (NOT "ticks")? Might he have giardia or pin worms? Have there been any other changes in his behavior or in his environment? Is he doing something this summer that is very different, such as playing outside all day, and him not wanting to stop? How is his sleeping? Is the poop different? Is it soft? Is it a large hard ball? Is he fatigued? How is his hair and skin?
Think about all these things, then contact the pediatrician. My kids had minor bowel problems that nobody took seriously. And it is just so easy to diagnose everything and anything as "mental" and related to "stress" even though the kids had less stress than 99% of the world's population.
It wasn't till they were adults that we found out what was wrong (two things). And only because we took matters into our own hands. If we had left it to standard medical care dictated by medical insurance, we would not have found they had these two problems (one was endocrine-related).
