Hi Moms,

I would like to start taking my 3 month old to our neighborhood pool soon, but I am worried about protecting his skin. Of course I will slather him in sunblock, but are there any bathing suits for babies that are more like wetsuits and have greater skin coverage? We are going to the beach when he is 6 months old and I want to start getting him used to the water. Plus we all know it's getting ready to be raging hot here in Austin! Thanks for the advice.

What can I do next?

You can now buy infant bathing shirts (a short or long sleeve light weight shirt) with built in SPF 50. These are sold everywhere. I just got my daughter 2 of them at Target for our beach vacation. Get your son one of those, some long shorts, and a hat and that decreases the amount of skin you have to put sunscreen on.
Enjoy your vacation.

Glad you are taking precautions. A friend just told us how his son got terribly sunburned at the coast as a baby. Remember that his face and ears would not be covered even in a wetsuit and that people can get a sunburn even under an umbrella at the beach. Personally, I would choose to go early in the morning or late in the evening and avoid the really hot middle of the day exposure.

Hi! Go to One Step Ahead's website and they have a ton! Also, Hanna Anderson. I don't like the tshirts as much b/c they ride up on their bellies. These places have onepiece zip up suits with spf in the fabric. They are awesome!!

didn't read the posts so sorry if this is a dup but you are not supposed to put sunscreen on a baby before 6 months. I don't know why, but if you are going to I would at least try to find something as natural as possible to avoid all the chemicals in the normal ones. Onestepahead.com has some swim suits that have shirts and long shorts, I have also seen some at Target. They are 50 proof I think so that really limits what you have to cover up with chems, also get him a hat, that will cover his head ears and most of his face. Have fun at the beach!
