My son is 2 months old. He's 25 inches long and 17 pounds. Needless to say he's outgrowing the infant tub I have. He's getting so he's too long. Obviously he's not ready to sit up in a toddler tub but he's too long for the newborn tub. Anybody here have any suggestions for bathing ideas? I need to figure something out before his head is actually hanging over the edge of the infant tub.
BTW I'm in Canada not the US.

Well I ended up using the regular bath tub and just folding up a towel and using it for a headrest for the baby with just a couple inches of water in the tub. Worked very well. It's a little awkward having a huge, heavy wet towel to ring out after, but it's not the end of the world.

LOL... my son was born at 10# and 23" long. We had some VERY nice infant tubs to donate brand spanking new.
What we did was to use a plastic toy tub. Specifically we used the "giant bucket" type with rope handles.
It had the added benefit later one (at about 6mo-1.5 yo) that I could put in about 9 inches of water and drag him around in it happily playing in the bubbles/ splashing while I cleaned the house. :) Those are some of my *favorite* pictures. Our bubble boy. Of course, that's after he could sit up. But really, any large/leak free plastic tub would work.

I had big babies too (both 20lbs by 4mos old!) and I never used an infant tub. I had one for our oldest and used it one time and decided it was a huge pain in the butt! I bought a big sponge at Wal Mart for $3, and used it for laying down baby, sitting up baby, and moving baby. It was nice to have somewhere to plop his butt when they started sitting up and were still slippery.
Its yellow, shaped like a bear, and in the baby isle at Target or Wal Mart for $3-5. I had one for each boy, and I always buy the mfor friends now. Way cheaper, easier, and longer lasting than a baby tub!
Jeez, what are they putting in the food in Canada? LOL Anyway you can always put a towel on the bottom of the tub so he won't slip and wash him that way. Good luck.

I used the baby tub for as long as possible then I tried the seat thing from toys r us that someone else suggested and it works but you have to put a lot of water in the bath. then I just put an inch or two of water in the tub and layed a towel in the bottom and the baby on top. He liked laying in the tub because he started to splash around 3 months.
I read through all of your answers. In the NE, a lot of the houses here only have one bath... we're used to it, all give our kiddos a bath in the kitchen sink. Sit them up, give them a few wooden spoons, and it uses less water while keeping the bathroom available. When their just little try a large plastic mixing bowl.
Bowl, Sink, and then straight to the tub (childproof your tub). It's cheaper than buying infant bathtub after bathtub. And I am sure they have plenty of plastic toys (tethers, blocks, measuring cups) around, throw them in the bath and skip the "bathtub" toys.
My daugher loves "sink" baths at nana's.
I never did this, but I had a friend use the bumbo chair in the tub. (They sit in it and it helps to stablize them). You can't use too much water or it floats away. Just another suggestion. Good luck!
I gave up on baby bath tubs--too awkward for me--until they were old enough and sturdy enough to sit up by themselves in one of those blowup tubs (loved that thing!). Until then, my husband or I would hold them in the shower. They do get slippery, though, so you've got to have a good hold with one arm and wash them with the other hand. And it helps to have a spouse standing by to help with getting the soap, and then pass off the clean baby to get dried while you finish your own shower. Worked wonderfully for us.
I'm probably out of the norm here but I just bathe with my baby in the big tub. He loves splashing around and kicking in the water. If I don't have time to sit in the bath with him I have a water sling (It's a ring sling made out of solarveil materiel) that I put him in and take him into the shower. I used the infant tub for the first month or so and then just went straight to the big bath with me!
My son was very tall, and we were able to buy a blow-up duck tub (you can find them at BRU). Although they are recommended for babies that can sit upright, we found we could lean our son back against the back of the ducky tub comfortably. You might try it out.
i have big babies too. By the time they are 2 months old i shower with them. I just hold them in my arms and take a warm shower. Before i get in i put the baby shampoo on their head and then work it in once i am in the shower. My kids LOVE the shower. Its very relaxing..the sound of the water..the warm air..being skin to skin with mommy...oh its so very sweet.
I have never used an infant or toddler tub... there's a yellow sponge shaped like a bear that my mom and I both used on our children, run the hot water for a bit in the bathroom to warm the air, put less than two inches in the tub, let it cool to the right temp (keep the door closed on the bathroom) to further warm the air, and bathe.
Get in the tub with him. It the best way to keep him safe. This is what I did and it worked great for my tall baby too. Also, unless your son is getting super messy, he really doesn't need a bath everyday. It's just not good for his skin.
